Today I will be joined be bestselling author and Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences Dean Radin. He is also volunteer faculty in the Dept of Psychologyat Sonoma State University. Before joining the research staff at IONS in 2001, he held appointments at AT&T Bell Labs, Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, and SRI International. He is author or coauthor of over 200 technical and popular articles, a dozen book chapters, and three books. He is a researcher and author in the field of parapsychology. He wrote the wonderful Entangled Minds - Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality, The Conscious Universe and most recently Supernormal: Science, Yoga, and the Evidence for Extraordinary Psychic Abilities. His most recent book Supernormal just won the Silver Nautilus Book Award. I read Entangled Minds for the first time, just a few months ago, and wow, was knocked over. This book is just common sense at this point. And this really brings parapsychology into the everyday world. He is a leader in probing the far reaches of human consciousness, principally psi phenomena, using the tools and techniques of science. This makes me so happy that in my lifetime this is finally a legitimate science, and a field that is being seriously considered as we look for answers in the unusual time in our history. Public schools are closing in cities across America and the ones that remain open are questionable when it comes to offering relevant information and preparation for life in a safe learning environment. But whereas public schools have often been dismal failures in America's urban areas, private, culturally based schools have had tremendous success. What is the missing ingredient. Haki and Safisha Madhubuti, founders of The Institute of Positive Education, discuss their journey as educators, publishers, and founders of several learning institutions that focus on African history and cultural values. As IPE prepares for an anniversary celebration this weekend, the Madhubutis reflect on the social andfinancial challenges involved in running independent schools.

On this episode of NWP Radio, we will celebrate the launch of a new curriculum series called, Interconnections: Understanding Systems Through Digital Design, developed collaboratively by designers and educators from the National Writing Project alongside colleagues from Indiana University's Creativity Labs , the Institute of Play , and the Digital Youth Network . In an era of increasing interconnectedness, knowledge—and power—belongs to those who understand the nature of the interdependent systems that organize the world—and have the skills to change those systems. Each book therefore teaches and includes a range of design challenges and learning projects that support systems-thinking concepts across disciplines, and are linked to youth interests in digital culture. During this show we will highlight some possibilities of this exciting and remixable curriculum while also sharing the history and philosophy of its co-design and development.
