"GOVERNMENT will ban chain stores from importing certain processed foodstuffs such as potatoes if they fail to comply with the directive by President Lungu to stock locally produced goods.
Deputy minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Miles Sampa has since given a two-month ultimatum to international chain stores such as Shoprite, Spar, Pick n Pay and Hungry Lion to start buying potatoes produced by local farmers."

Household spending and business fixed investment have been increasing moderately, and the housing sector has improved further; however, net exports have been soft. The labor market continued to improve, with solid job gains and declining unemployment. On balance, labor market indicators show that underutilization of labor resources has diminished since early this year. Inflation has continued to run below the Committee's longer-run objective, partly reflecting declines in energy prices and in prices of non-energy imports. Market-based measures of inflation compensation moved lower; survey-based measures of longer-term inflation expectations have remained stable.Fed Open Market Report
"Slavery in all but name has been the foundation of the cocoa industry in St. Those and St. Principe and in the mines of Rand. Gin has been one of the European imports, having increased fifty percent in ten years and reaching ma total of at least twenty- five million dollars a year today. Negroes of ability have been carefully gotten rid of, disposed from authority, kept out of positions of influence, and discredited in their people's eyes, while a caste of white overseers and governing officials has appeared everywhere. Naturally, the picture is not all lurid. David Livingstone has had his successors and Europe has given Africa something of value in the beginning of education and industry. Yet the balance of iniquity is desperately large; but worse than that, it has aroused no world protest. A great Englishman, familiar with African problems for generations, says frankly today:"There does not exist any real international conscience to which you can appeal." W.E.B. DuBois The islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, situated in the equatorial Atlantic and Gulf of Guineaabout 300 and 250 kilometres (190 and 160 mi), respectively, off the northwest coast of Gabon, constitute Africa's second smallest country. Rand Mines, the South African mining house, originated as H. Ekstein & Co. in 1887 and was soon nicknamed 'The Corner House'. The founders were Alfred Beit, Hermann Ekstein and Julius Wernher. They formed Rand Mines as a financial company in 1893 to help pioneer the first deep level mines with assistance from the Rothschilds.
The Exports/Imports Bank guarantees loans to foreign companies to buy U.S. exports – find out why opinion on it is divided.
We have a common ancestry, but no longer speak the same languae and many times we don't follow the same culture, but African Americans (those born in America descending from generations of family lineage) and Africans in America (recent imigrants to America) have a grand opportunity to create a global business network, by importing products from Africa and selling them on the American market. Others around the globe are imitating African clothing and artifacts (China, Korea, etc.) and selling them cheaply to African Americans. African American hair care companies that once cornered the market have been bought out by the larger white owned companies such as Revlon, who promptly dominated the world market of crinkly haired people. Can we capitalize on a common heritage, recapture our connection, and create a global economy that enhances the prosperity for both African Americans and Africans in America? Mr. Symon Ogeto of the African Global Chamber of Commerce shares his views on Africa's influence on the global marketplace.
Next time on Third Eye Cinema: one of the premier names in old school speed metal shred guitar!
Working alongside Rainbow, MSG and Alcatrazz frontman Graham Bonnett, he blazed his way onto the 80's metal scene with the somewhat uncharacteristic Stand In Line, making enough of a name for himself to release his own REH instructional video Speed Soloing before seemingly vanishing from the scene thereafter.
After spending a full two decades producing quality, effectively Christian metal albums solely available as imports from the RCA Victor Japan label with original vocalist Rob Rock (Angelica, M.A.R.S. Project Driver) and Chastain/Fifth Angel drummer Ken Mary, he’s returned to domestic shores courtesy of Frontiers records.
With a blazing new album evoking the sound and style of classic 80's L.A. style metal and some blazing, sweep picked arpeggiation and fiery 32nd note runs still marked by a strong grounding in melodic structure and classic song construction, Impelliteri appears to be poised for their first U.S. breakthrough in decades (and their first domestic release with longtime vocalist Rock in the drivers' seat)!
Join us as we speak to one of the great shredders, the legendary Chris Impelliteri, only here on Third Eye Cinema!
Week 89 (Sun. Apr. 19) Chris Impelliteri
This week we are interviewing the fun, entertaining and extraordinary Brian Smith. Brian was born in Australia, where he developed his love of surfing. A chartered accountant, he studied at the UCLA Graduate School of Management, and with $500 of start-up money, he founded UGG Imports to bring sheepskin footwear to America. After seventeen years, as sales reached $15 million, he sold the business to Deckers Outdoor Corporation. The UGG brand has since exceeded $1 billion of international sales several times over.
A passionate innovator and entrepreneur, Brian is also deeply spiritual, purpose driven, values oriented, and totally committed to God. He is one of the most sought after business leaders in the country today. As a media guest and inspiring speaker, he is committed to teaching his breakthrough business strategies to entrepreneurs and translating personal vision and spirituality into company culture.
From the shores of Malibu to Mount Kilimanjaro, Brian Smith tells his story of founding the world-renowned UGG Australia brand and reveals the secret to its mega-success. This book is written for anyone who wants to learn how-to succeed in business but also for those seeking the deeper truths they don't teach you about in business school.
On Brian’s journey he stumbled and fell, but he put his heart and soul into every sole and sale. He overcame all odds and found ultimate success. He will enlighten us with his decades of experience and wisdom about the sale of a lifetime, and the making of a legend.
Brian's experience with UGG can certainly provide practical advice and tips to help kick-start an entrepreneurial revolution. But even if you are not an entrepreneur, it will inspire you to work hard, persevere, believe in yourself, watch the signs along the way, learn the lessons, and never give up!
