Short Bio: OVERSEER CHESTER MCGOWAN, JR.
A native Texan by way of Austin, Chester McGowan, Jr. is known throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex both spiritually and professionally. He is characterized spiritually as a man of GOD with an inconceivable passion to not only remain a humble servant, but to positively impact the lives of those in need of pure encouragement and guidance. He has served in various ministries throughout his lifetime that prepared him for his journey. Professionally, he is known throughout the community as a sharp businessman who has identified the need to mentor and lead other young men in opening doors for entrepreneurship. While owning and operating a now successful building and remodeling company, Chester McGowan does not despise small beginnings. Hard work has paid off and he can now see the fruits of his labor as he pours into the lives of others sharing his secrets to success.

Angela Valenzuela is a professor in both the Cultural Studies in Education Program within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and the Educational Policy and Planning Program within the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Texas at Austin where she also serves as the director of the University of Texas Center for Education Policy. She runs a blog titled, Educational Equity, Politics & Policy in Texas.
A Stanford University graduate, her previous teaching positions were in Sociology at Rice University in Houston, Texas (1990-98), as well as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Mexican American Studies at the University of Houston (1998-99). She is also the author of Subtractive Schooling: U.S. Mexican Youth and the Politics of Caring, winner of both the 2000 American Educational Research Association Outstanding Book Award and the 2001 Critics' Choice Award from the American Educational Studies Association. She is also the editor of a volume titled, Leaving Children Behind: How “Texas-style” Accountability Fails Latino Youth.
She also has a volume that is in press based on her national-level work as director of the National Latino/a Education Research and Policy Project titled, Growing Critically Conscious Teachers for Latino/a Youth: A Social Justice Approach(New York: Teachers College Press). Valenzuela’s research and teaching interests are in the sociology of education, minority youth in schools, education policy, and urban education reform.
