Since his election in June 1977, Dr. Hicks has served as the fifth senior minister in the congregation’s 143-year history. During his 30-year pastorate, Metropolitan has developed into one of the world’s foremost Christian congregations, distinguished by its fervent worship and dynamic preaching.

Author H. Alan Day joins me on the Indie Books Show this week to talk about The Horse Lover: A Cowboy's Quest to Save the Wild Mustangs. We may even get a chance to hear a bit about the book he co-authored with his sister Sandra Day O'connor back in 2002. That book was Lazy B: Growing Up On a Cattle Ranch in the American Southwest
The Horse Lover is Alan's personal history of starting the first government-sponsored wild horse sanctuary, which was located on 35,000 acres in the Sand Hills of South Dakota. After successfully lobbying Congress to approve the idea, Alan received 1500 wild horses in 1989 from the Bureau of Land Management. His deep connection with the animals in his care is clear from the outset, as is his maverick philosophy of horse-whispering, which he used to train the entire herd. The memoir reveals the Heculean task of balancing the requirements of the government with the needs of the wild horses. He story also weaves in cowboying adventures that Alan had on some of his best horses and the lessons of perseverance, steadfastness, and hope he learned from these four-legged friends. Booklist is calling the memoir “an instant classic.” The story also is relevant to today’s wild horse issues that are costing the BLM $70 million per year. Washington is home to government-owned wild mustangs.
Tune in Friday at 11AM EST or listen to the archive.

Rattle and Hum Sports Southeastern Conference Show Week 6
Hosted by Bryan Houston with guest Ces Guerra
RattleandHumSports.com host Bryan Houston welcomes author of the book “Gumbo for the Tiger’s Soul” Ces Guerra to look back at week five on the SEC gridiron and preview the action on the schedule week 6.
Texas A&M showed they were vulnerable against a solid opponent as the Aggies needed an improbable comeback and overtime to beat the game Arkansas Razorbacks 35-28. Why the 12th man should tap the breaks on “Title Talk?”
LSU may have found a quarterback as Brandon Harris took over for an ineffective Anthony Jennings while the Tigers crushed New Mexico State. With Auburn on the schedule week six, the time to find their signal caller was Saturday.
South Carolina fell to Missouri 21-20 after leading throughout that game while Georgia held off an improving Tennessee team 35-32. The Tigers and Bulldogs are on a collision course for the SEC East Title.
Alabama plays at Ole Miss this week after taking week five off. That game along with the LSU at Auburn matchup and the Aggies trip to Starkville, MS to square off with undefeated Mississippi State headline a list of great games across the conference.

Music is a major escape from life for many people around the world. It has to have a life of its own that the audience tends to feel for, and relate to. The artist must deliver a heart-felt performance, and attractive musical elements in order to make the cut. Maine, a singer from Long Island, New York the Central Islip area, is one of the few that have managed to deliver the goods. The releases of his single 'I Can't Explain It' was an absolute success, as it soared to the top of the radio airplay charts. First debuting at no.2 and then taking over the top spot. In December 2013, the record was announced to be #1 on the internet radio station powerhouse IBFU Radio. The song was only on the air for 21 days before conquering the charts. It would remain on top for the next 5 weeks to come.
Growing up competing in talent shows and singing in church, Maine's evolution into the music game would come naturally, He had God-given ability to paint realistic pictures of everyday scenarios in the streets, which he personally coined as Ghetto R&B.
Rattle and Hum Sports Dallas Cowboys at St. Louis Rams Preview
Hosted by Bryan Houston with guest Matthew Postins
RattleandHumSports.com host Bryan Houston is joined by Dallas Cowboys writer Matthew Postins to preview the Cowboys at Rams this Sunday.
The Cowboys picked up their first win of the 2014 season last week in Tennessee and is a 1.5 point favorite to get win number two this week in St Louis.
Tony Romo was feeling some back pain this week. Romo has been sacked a league leading seven times in two games. What is his status and should there be concern?
The Cowboys beat Tennessee by running DeMarco Murray down the Titans throats. Murray has gained more rushing yards (285) than ANY other Cowboy through two games.
Will the Cowboys game plan be run, run, run or will they try to fool themselves and open up a the passing games despite the success running the football thus far this season and outsmart themselves?
Defensively the Cowboys have performed serviceably through two games. The good news this week is Orlando Scandrick will return after his suspension was reduced to the league’s new drug policy. The bad news is that the surprising middle linebacker, Rolando McClain, has suffered a groin injury joining Justin Durant in that category which makes rookie Anthony Hitchens the most viable option in the middle of the Cowboys second level of defense should Durant and McClain be limited or out.
The Rams have been quiet about their starting quarterback, either Shaun Hill or Austin Davis, as a strategical move but will it matter? Will the Cowboys bring home a 2-1 record from St. Louis or will they drop a game they should win before welcoming the Drew Brees and the high flying New Orleans Saints to primetime at AT&T Stadium next Sunday night?
Join Bryan and Matthew LIVE today at 12:30 PM CDT for all this and more!!!
Rattle and Hum Sports Dallas Cowboys Preview Show
Hosted by Bryan Houston and guest Mathew Postins
RattleandHumSports.com host Bryan Houston and Dallas Cowboys writer Matthew Postins preview Sunday night’s Dallas Cowboys game as the 2-1 Cowboys welcome the 1-2 New Orleans Saints to AT&T Stadium.
The Cowboys are coming off their biggest comeback in team history last week as they trailed 20-0 early but came back to beat Brees and the Saints, who hung 49 points on the Cowboys defense last season in the St. Louis Rams 34-31. Will the Cowboys carry some momentum into the game against the Saints who have beaten them up the last two seasons or will they return to earth and get exposed defensively by Drew “Big Easy.”
Morris Claiborne was cemoted this week. After learning his spot would be taken by Orlando Scandrick, Claiborne skipped out on practice. Claiborne has returned to the team and will play the nickel against the Saints who will be looking to throw it all over the Dallas secondary. Could this move be enough to slow down the Saints, or will Rod Marinelli’s surprisingly serviceable defense finally get exposed like most expected they would this season?
The way the Cowboys can slow the Saints down is to continue to run the football. Will we see the Cowboys ground and pound Rob Ryan’s defense to protect the defense?
The defense could get a shot in the arm with return of some healthy bodies at linebacker. What is the status of Rolando McClain and Justin Durant as Sunday approaches?
Can the Cowboys take advantage of the Saints who have struggled early to get to 3-1 with the beatable Texans headed to Dallas next week?
Bryan and Matthew will break it down for you at LIVE tonight at 7:00 PM CDT on Blog Talk Radio!

The Caesars are veterans of the Motor City’s R&B, jazz, rock, and blues scenes. For more than a decade, the classically trained Laura Rain has been singing in Detroit and Los Angeles with an absolute freedom of expression, permitted by her wondrous voice, an instrument of infinite shadings in timbre that avails itself to effortless glides between registers. Often compared to Aretha Franklin, Rains’s fire, feeling, and expressiveness are all her own. Producer, co-writer, and guitarist George Friend, another Detroiter returned home from L.A., has made his mark in multiple genres–rockabilly (Robert Gordon), R&B (The Sun Messengers), and blues (Janiva Magness)–and released a hip solo album of West Coast blues, Looka Here!, in 2004. Phil Hale has played keyboards for everyone from Martha Reeves to George Clinton, Stanley Jordan, Bettye LaVette, and James Carter. Drummer Ron Pangborn, an original member of Was (Not Was), lays down beats that are perfectly fitted to the Caesars' retro-modern soul and blues.
in 2013, Laura Rain and the Caesars have been featured at the Anti Freeze Blues Fest, Tawas Blues By the Bay, Brighton Smokin' Jazz and Blues Barbecue, Marquette Area Blues Festival, Mackinac Island Music Festival and in clubs from Detroit to Los Angeles.
