Each year, more than 20,000 children and youth under age 20 are killed or injured by firearms in the United States.1 Thousands of young people are shot by peers, family members, or strangers, either intentionally or unintentionally. Thousands more use guns to attempt suicide, and these attempts prove successful more often than suicides attempted by other means.2 Countless other children and youth, though not injured or killed themselves, are survivors of gun violence, scarred by the effects of such violence in their homes, schools, or communities. Although children and youth are often victimized by gun violence, they also can become perpetrators, using guns to kill or maim others.
What is the answer to keeping guns out of the hands of our children?
Let's talk about it Wednesday night at 8pm on DPRADIOXL.
Eighty-two people were shot in Chicago over the July 4th weekend. Fourteen of those people died. Most of the victims were Black and Latino men.
Dr. Roger A. Mitchell has made it his personal crusade to put an end to the senseless violence that consumes far too many sons and brothers, daughters and sisters, and that lays waste to entire communities. Named by Mayor Vincent Gray in Washington, DC as Chief Medical Examiner earlier this year after a stint as Regional Medical Examiner in New Jersey, Dr. Mitchell is breathing life into his unique profession of forensic pathology by sharing vital information with communities and invigorating a movement that had lost its focus. He talks to us about his heavy charge as Chief Medical Examiner, about his mission to save Black lives, and about his forthcoming memoir, The Price of Freedom: A Son's Journey.
Host Allison R. Brown is a civil rights attorney and the President of Allison Brown Consulting (ABC), which creates racial equity plans and promotes racial equity, particularly in education.
Host Cyrus Webb welcomes writer/director/actor Reggie "Rock" Bythewood to Conversations LIVE to discuss not just his gift of creativity but what it's been like over the years to share it with the world. The two will also discuss the new movie GUN HILL starring Larenz Tate.
Facts will be shared to find the truth regarding how strict gun laws have an impact on communities. Does allowing concealed carry adjust crime rates. What causes mass shootings, and how can we best prevent them. We'll go over past shooting events. This show is set for 90 minutes this week!

While we have clear data on murders from gun violence, no one seems to know how many Americans are shot – and survive – every year. In fact, the government’s own numbers seem to conflict on the matter.
How can this be? And why has no one tried to resolve the difference?
Lois Beckett explains that doctors and researchers have been pushing for clear numbers on gun injuries since 1989. “But what’s happened over that time is the politics of gun research, the politics of guns in America, are so divided and so fierce that even the effort to count the number of people injured by guns is incredibly political,” she says.
Tonight on the Curent Issues Show we will be talking about Eric Cantor to step down from being a majority leader. We are also talking about the G.O.P and how being to far right is now considered moderate. Finally we are talking about how President Obama said this nation "should be ashamed" over the gun violence.
"Former NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave Mississippi gun owners 250,000 more reasons to vote for Chris McDaniel in the Republican primary run-off election." -- Tim Macy, vice chair, Gun Owners of America
Democrats from pro-gun states are telling former AZ representative Gabrielle Giffords to stay away.
Senator Harry Reid says he may call for a vote on so-called "universal background check" legislation. He doesn't expect it to pass, but the ploy would highlight differences between the two parties.
Tonight -- Larry Pratt, head of the Gun Owners of America organization, joins us to discuss the constant attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights and the stunning defeat of Eric Cantor, the Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, to GOA-supported David Brat.
And... recapping the IRS hearings.
There is one thing that I can never understand when it comes to Democrats. How do they think that making more laws will somehow decrease the amount of gun violence? I have a news flash for them...it is not the people with the gun license/permit committing the crimes and mass shootings!!! Do they truly not get it is the criminals who do not care what kind of law you pass they are still going to get a gun and use them to commit crimes? That is why they are called criminals. They don't obey the laws. Five of the cities with the most gun violence are in states with the strictest gun laws. Guess what, Chicago is one of those cities. I guess the president was too busy as a senator voting present to do any real work. Starting July 1 in Georgia, House Bill 60, or the Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014 -- which opponents have nicknamed the "guns everywhere bill" -- specifies where Georgia residents can carry weapons. Included are provisions that allow residents who have concealed carry permits to take guns into some bars, churches, school zones, government buildings and certain parts of airports goes into effect. Liberals have gotten their thongs in a wad but if they took the time to read the law they would understand it does no more harm than the current laws on the books. Obamacare taxes going up next year, Hilary claims they were dead broke when they left the White House, Eric Cantor loses seat and touch with voters
