A new school year has begun. And, like clockwork, the cases of abuse, bullying, and IEP problems have come pouring in. These are serious but all too common and predictable problems facing autistic students every school year.
What causes these problems and what can be done about it?
Also: Is it a crisis to have three arms, legs, or breasts? What about having no eyebrows?
Tune in as CAN Radio hosts explore these topics as well as news and updates from the Council for Autism and Neurodiversity.
As always, special thanks to the volunteers, interns, and members who put together this public service program.

Over the summer, you poured your heart and soul into your favorite games. You made it up to level 99 in that RPG and you managed to take down the hardest Raid Boss in your go-to MMO. But, now, you have to put them away and get back to hitting the books for another, arduous school year ... or do you?
This week, the GCR crew will put in the class hours for you and discuss our favorite school-themed video, card, and board games! But, that's not all -- we'll provide some extra credit, discussing the inner workings of gaming at school! Lastly, Scott will regale us with another one of his Impromptu Game Seminars! So, tune in and don't miss out!
Conservatives complain about the public schools, but they tend to leave their kids in these indoctrination centers. Jube Dankworth will discuss how the modern homeschool movement makes it easier for everyone to homeschool their children or grandchildren.

Back-to-school can become more complicated in a co-parenting situation. With so much going on in both of your lives, it is difficult to keep it all together...after-school activities, sports, band, you name it.
As your children grow the requirements and demands of you will also change. Being proactive about their lives will allow you to stay in control of yours. As parents you'll be happy to know - a solution is out there.
Listen in as we talk: Back to school and co-parenting
In this week's episode of The Urban Woman Radio we will discuss a number of topics:
In our first segment we will discuss the new school year. School has been back in session for exactly one month. How are your children doing in school ? Have they already fallen back into their old habits ? How do you keep your children focused
We will be taking a closer look at Pupilpath. According to the Bayside HS. website:
Pupil Path is a student information system for parents and students. Pupil Path allows parents and students to view important student and school information such as student attendance records, class schedule, assignment due dates and grades, graduation eligibility, school announcements, and more. This is
a convenient tool for both parents and students to keep up with class work and student performance.
I love Pupilpath because it allows me to keep track of my child's progress on a daily basis. I do not have to keep asking: Did you get your test back ? How do you think you are doing ? The answer from my 6th grader is always "great" but as my 13-year old says:" Pupilpath says otherwise."
I also enjoy being able to interact with the teachers and receive reminders about upcoming projects etc. I feel less reluctant to reach out and ask questions about my child's progress.
Speaking of school, School Lunch is free for Middle School students in NYC. We will find out the reason for this...
In the entertainment segment we will discuss my two favorite shows. Being Mary Jane and Power. Here is quiz ? What is the common denominator in these two shows....
Looking forward to joining you this Sunday...
What do moonshine, motorbikes, misteltoe, and mountain mystery mail have to do with funerals, folklore, feline detectives, singing hounds, and secret blueberry patches? Nothing. That is until our hero and narrator, the ultimate fish-out-of-water, British folklorist, Dr. Tom Watson, finds himself doing post doctoral research in Appalachian Virginia. At first appalled by the absurdity of the language and lifestyle of the simple mountain community of Caney Forks, Dr. Watson falls in with and under the spell of beautiful mountain conjure woman and private detective, Shirley Combs and her feline companion, “Whassup?” Together they set out to solve the little mysteries of Caney Forks as this “Dr. Watson” learns to respect mountain wisdom and culture. Part farce, part detective story, part anthropological dive into the folkways of a culture and way of life that is slipping away, The Curious Case of the Conjure Woman is a wild ride.
