    Gender Journeys

    in LGBT

Today Rosemary and Deirdra will introduce their new series, Gender Journeys. They will share the Why that inspired these shows and how in their own journey to be better allies they chose to share it with the world. There is science. There are personal stories. There is hope but there is still alot of work to be done in understanding one another and reaching out in Love. Whether you are Transgender, a friend, a family member and yes, even a parent, we hope that you find something that will help or support you and inspire you to reach out and help educate even more people. We will be bringing on guests to share their stories and to answer your questions live, either on the phone lines or in the chat room. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry but we hope that all of them will make you think.

Today we would like to give an opportunity to you, our listeners, to share the questions with us that you would like answered. We are doing this show for you. We want to know what You want to know. If asking so publicly is hard for you please send your questions or comments to ~

Gender Roles, Gender Confusion, Gender Wars

    in Politics

On this episode of Field Afrikan Radio we will discuss the many variables that causes the breakdown in the relationship between Black men and women. Are we subconscious misogynist and feminist and don't know it and if we are, how does that affect our daily interactions with other Black people? Are Black men and women confused by what their roles are in the present Black family and how does that confusion fuel and contribute to the so-called "Gender War"? Who is at fault for this confusion? How does this confusion snowball into bigger issues that only hurts us yet benefits so-called White Supremacy? The angry Black man vs the angry Black woman? Lets discuss it.

Robert Siciliano--Tis The Season For Identity Theft and Scams #31

    in Current Events

Noted identity theft expert and bestselling author Robert Siciliano joined us to discuss the Identity Theft Epidemic. Christmas Time is notorious for all sorts of scams. With the advent of chipped credit and debit cards, new scams have been created to take advantage of the consumer confusion created by this technology. Beware of banks calling you to discuss your new card. It's an opening to get your private info. Also beware of phony websites for charities and retailers, created just for the purpose of stealing your data. Awareness is the key to keeping you and your data safe this holiday season.

The Human Agenda; Conversations about Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity

    in Spirituality

THE HUMAN AGENDA: Conversations about Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity with author Joe Wenke

Despite the progress in the movement toward marriage equality, the LGBTQI community continues to face difficult, and often heartbreaking, odds. Gay and lesbian youth are four times more likely than their peers to attempt suicide. Nearly half of transgender teens have contemplated suicide and a quarter has made an attempt, according to The Trevor Project. Adoption equality and second-parent rights are still blocked in many states, and legislators in Oklahoma and Alabama have tried to introduce laws that make it legal to discriminate against gays and lesbians. Perhaps most disturbing of all, homicide rates for transgender women account for 45 percent of all hate murders, according to GLAAD.

Joe Wenke thinks there is a better way. By opening up discussions about our shared humanity and experiences, Wenke is getting people to talk with, not at, each other and leaving the rancor and divisiveness behind, beginning with his book THE HUMAN AGENDA: Conversations about Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity. For this collection of frank conversations about growing up, coming out, finding your identity, family, marriage, parenting, careers and so much more.

Thomas Ruskin--Chips Are No Guarantee That Your Credit Card/Identity Is Safe #28

    in Current Events

Former NYPD Detective Thomas Ruskin joined us today for an update on identity theft trends. Chipped credit and debit cards were supposed to be the cure all to credit card skimmers and scanners that have become rampant. However, my brand new chipped card was cloned and used in a grocery store in Illinois. To my bank's credit they caught it after two relatively small charges. I was sitting in a restaurant in New Orleans when the crime struck and I received a text informing me of the deed. Hopefully more secure measures will be implemented soon.
