Blending the sweetness of story with savory culinary adventures, Ellen Kanner's Feeding the Hungry Ghost combines elements of humor, spirituality, cultural food traditions, current science about health and diet, and seasonal recipes in a wildly delicious read. As the Meatless Monday blogger for Huffington Post and a syndicated columnist (The Edgy Veggie), Ellen shares the importance of food that nourishes both heart and soul while supporting a more sustainable approach to raising the food that graces our tables.
The "hungry ghost" of the title is a Tao concept, evoking restless souls still hungry, still seeking, even beyond the grave. Food alone does not satisfy this hungry spirit within each of us, illustrated by the rise in obesity and sense of disconnection from the very food we gobble. Spirituality alone doesn't fulfill all our human needs, either, which is why we need to combine these hungers and learn to eat mindfully, in harmony with our natural seasons and in relationship with our family and wider communities, no matter what form they take. Ellen's stories, centered around the seasons and the moods they evoke, nudge us to think and feel more deeply about how we live now. Ellen knows all the spiritual cheerleading in the world can't get the average person to change their habits, so she offers bait: specifically, delicious vegan recipes from her personal arsenal, many of them re-workings of cultural favorites from around the world.
Feeding the Hungry Ghost addresses questions explored by food and health writers: why are French women thin though they eat cheese, croissants, and drink wine; or how sustainable agriculture and eating locally sourced food can increase your well-being and the well-being of the planet. She describes why simple choices can begin to change habits and alter behavior, how these small steps can lead to a healthier, happier person and healthier, more peaceful planet.
Do you make time to cook in an overscheduled world? Can you successfully involve kids in preparing meals? Do you believe that healthy food is difficult to prepare and expensive? Do you connect your meals with the seasons? Do you understand the cultural and spiritual aspects of what you eat?
Tune in as we explore these questions and more with guest, Ellen Kanner! Ellen is an award-winning food writer and author of Feeding the Hungry Ghost: Life, Faith and What to Eat for Dinner. She is also Huffington Post's Meatless Monday blogger and the syndicated columnist Edgy Veggie, is published in Bon Appetit, Eating Well, Vegetarian Times, Every Day with Rachael Ray, and Culinate as well as in other online and print publications. She’s an ardent advocate for sustainable, accessible food, serving on the Miami boards of Slow Food and Common Threads.
When she’s not teaching underserved students to cook and speaking about what we’re hungry for, Ellen takes time to tend her tiny organic vegetable garden, hike in the Everglades, make friends with cows and make dinner with friends. She believes in close community, strong coffee, organic food and red lipstick. A fourth-generation Floridian, she lives la vida vegan in Miami with her husband. As I come out of the fog of Lyme Disease, I am having to relearn how to do everything I used to. On top of that, I have picked up a whole new set of fun activites. As I get myself moving and my life in order, I figured it would be a good idea to come back to the show and just start over. My very first show was dedicated to awareness and an explanaition of what I have just been through. For more on that story, please refer to the archives or the webstie and listen to that episode.
This episode is going to be a "reintroduction" of myself to all my newest listeners and a really long breakdown of everything I have going on as far as getting business back up and running. I am booking readings again, I will be offering my classes come early Spring, I have homefront projects, activist projects, and can't wait to pick back up with charity.
So come on in, listen, and enjoy. 2015 is going to be a wild ride!

Believers, if you are not feeding your spiritual man on God's word, you have become anorexic. Wanting to be like and look like every body else, instead of who God has made you and I to be.You purposely heae up the word of God to be like other, not realizing the damage you are doing to yourself. Thin, lacking spirit or sincere effort. flimsy, fragile, lacking substance. This is just were the enemy wants you..
You can feed your spirit man or you can feed your flesh. Which side wins in your life – your spirit or your flesh? Probably whichever one you feed more! You get good at walking in the Spirit the same way you get good at walking in the flesh – practice! Michael Jordan did not become the success he is without practice. He was even told that he would not be a good player, but so a man thinketh so is he. I am sure that made him more determined.
Walking in the Spirit is the same way; the more you practice, the better at it you get. II am sure Jordan missed many baskets, but he did not give up, he kept on practing. . The more you pray, the easier it gets. The more you read the Word, the easier it gets to read the Word without your head distracting you about all the things you need to get done. The opposite of anorexic is FAT. FAITHFUL, AVAILABLE AND TEACHABLE. Let's get started, are you ready?

One thing Maryland Ghost Trackers insures is a 100% FREE investigation or education program. We are a dedicated team and our knowledge base comes from years of experience within the paranormal research field. We are not scientists nor do we claim to be scientists. We go about our research with a open mind and by using deductive reasoning we are able to confirm as well as renounce, paranormal claims.
We ensure all investigations are professionally executed, and all evidence collected will be reviewed and presented to the client along with a copy of our findings. We believe client privacy is a very important aspect of what we do and we go out of our way to assure this. We keep all inquiries confidential and we work with your schedule. There are no cases too small, and all requests are taken seriously. We also take requests from other states, so If you think you might have a need for Maryland Ghost Trackers, whether for education purposes or for a private investigation please feel free to contact us, we are here to help.
Maryland Ghost Trackers understands that Paranormal Research is a very subjective topic. This field is often confused to being related to science but in reality it is not. Findings in the Paranormal Community are really unmeasurable in the sense that we can not create a control to base our findings against nor can we replicate our findings at any given time. That being said, we can only observe and report our findings to the home owner.
Hosts Deb DeRousse & Jonathan Lento are thrilled to have Stacey Jones as their guest.
Stacey Jones has been fascinated with claims of hauntings since she was 6 when her mom recounted her own true tale. She grew up, became a cop, but never lost her passion for the unexplained. She began investigating Haunted Locations in 1984 and started her group Central NY Ghost Hunters in 1995 after responding to an “unexplained noise” complaint from a single mom of 3 young boys. She found no explanation for the noises, but suspected the house may have been haunted. The mother and boys fled the house, and Stacey vowed she would help those who needed it and a “Ghost Cop” was born.
Stacey is the nation’s leading female paranormal investigator and is well respected in the Paranormal Community for Research and has conducted over 1000 investigations. Throughout the years Stacey has teamed up with Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson, Zak Bagans, Chip Coffey, John Zaffis, Chris Fleming, Jeff Belanger of Ghost Village and “Researcher for “Ghost Adventures” and Renowned Parapsychologist; Dr. Barry Taff.
She has been featured on Discovery Channel’s “A Haunting” “Ghost Hunter”, “Hidden Terror”, Travel Channels “Ghost Adventures” and Zak Bagans “Paranormal Challenge”. She also starred in her own Paranormal Reality show “CNY Spirits” On the CW Channel. Stacey was also a co-host on TAPS PARAmagazine Radio and featuredon Coast to Coast with George Noory where he proclaimed Stacey’s “Horrific EVP” as the most profound piece of ghost evidence to date.
