    in Music

This evening, I will interview and share music of Maija Rejman a jazz vocalist who resides in the Washington Metropolitan area.  When she was nine years old, she began performing on several Jacksonville, FL television stations.  At 11 years old, she sang regularly on the radio for the USO in Newport, Rhode Island, and on WEEI, Boston. Then at age 12 local Boston songwriters started hiring Maija to do new song demos.  After graduating from high school, she sang briefly with Bobby Timmons at the original Bohemian Caverns in Washington, D.C.  In 1987, Maija sang at the Apollo Theatre winning one of the weekly contests.  As a result, she started performing in all the major venues in the Washington Metropolitan area.  Over the years, Maija has performed with many great jazz artists such as Bobby Timmons, Keter Betts, Ron Elliston, Charlie Byrd, Buck Hill, Bob Butta, Robert Redd, Chuck Redd, Tommy Cecil, James King, Wade Beach, David Kane, Drew Gress, Naser Abadey, Lenny Robinson, Tony Martucci, Mike Crotty and Claudio Roditi.  Join us this evening at Jazz Notes keeping jazz alive.

Let's Talk Too! Authoress Derinda Gee

    in Books

    I'm your host

    Author Sharnel

    Authoress Derinda Gee,

She is a mother of 3 beautiful children, 2 boys and 1 girl. Who I have happily devoted my life to. I am from Long Island New York. I currently reside in Charlotte NC, where I have been living since the age of 13. As a kid I was a very outspoken young lady. I guess I get it honest from my beautiful mother. I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters who I love dearly. As a kid I was more on the tomboy side. I always wanted to be a lawyer or a forensic science specialist. I never in a million years thought that I would be a writer. It just goes to show, you never know what God has in store for you or what your calling in life could be. With that being said I want to say thank you and I love you, to National best seller Author RL Welch. He brought out the Authoress in me. He kept pushing me and he did not give up on me. He believed in me as a writer before I even started to write. I always read various Author books like. RL Welch, Jackie Collins, Eric Jerome Dickey, Terry McMillian, and Sister Souljah. But other than that I was too busy helping raise my 2 knuckle head brothers. That’s another story in itself I will touch on that in my autobiography.

    - What can we expect from a (hopefully) healthy Stephen Strasburg?

    - Can R.A. Dickey be fantasy-relevant the rest of the way?

    - Is it time we start paying attention to Welington Castillo?

All that and more on this week's episode, going live at 8:00pm ET.

  • Franchise Interviews with Dickey's Barbecue Pit

    in Business

We are meeting with Trinity Hall, Senior Vice President of Development for Dickey's Barbecue Pit.  Every Dickeys Barbecue Pit location smokes all of their meats on-site at the restaurant the same way it was done in 1941. Over the years Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has been recognized by journals and business magazines.  Some include the following:

“Top 100 List: Private Companies”   Dallas Business Journal

“Top Fastest Growing Companies” by Inc. Magazine

Dickey's serves up beef brisket, pulled pork, ham, polish sausage, turkey breast and chicken, with an extensive array of home-style sides from jalapeño beans to macaroni and cheese. Buttery rolls are served with every meal along with the complimentary ice cream and dill pickles. And just like always, kids eat free on Sunday.
