This chapter introduces something that should be very exciting and a victorious time for the Israelites. They are scoping out the land that God has already given to them. Twelves spies were sent to check out the land. The purpose was not to evaluate whether or not victory was possible because God had already promised them complete victory. But ten of the twelve spies are afraid to go forward with God. They say, "We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."
That is not a good example of attitudes we should have, not in disobedience and not in how we view ourselves.
