Engineering for Kids comes from the mind of educator Dori Roberts. With an extensive educational background in math and technology education, Roberts taught engineering at the high school level for 11 years. During her teaching career, she saw a dire need for math, science and engineering programs. To fill this void, she started an afterschool club that participated in various engineering and science-based competitions. After membership hit 180 students and the group won multiple state champio

HUEY P. NEWTON
Death, US Capitalism, and Huey Newton’s Theory of Suicide
by Danny Haiphong
“Newton produced a theory of suicide that redefined the experience of death for the purposes of revolutionary change.”Death is central to the US capitalist system, especially in the form of state-sponsored murder. Without the murderous invasions, coups, and mercenary wars conducted by the US capitalist state and its allied countries, the entire system of finance speculation and profit accumulation would come undone
MARTHA ROSE CROW, MS (America's Darkest Secret)
The Nine Stages of American Autogenocide (Revised January 13, 2009) American Autogenocide is the deliberate, systematic and legal murder of American citizens by socially-engineering the die-off of populations that are “problematic” for the interests of wealth and power. This process is called "Weathering Away" or "Attrition By Stress from Shock." The simple formula for this is: SHOCK=STRESS=PREMATURE DEATH BY AUTOGENOCIDE.

By the age of 14, Ryan's work in the family business earned him the nomination to learn the brand new computer controlled manufacturing equipment. By 16, he was updating all of the automation and control systems. At 19 he spent his first college spring break training on operating, programming and maintaining the company's first robot. His obvious curiosity, ingenuity and ability have only grown throughout his career.
While still an undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering, Ryan managed to work for than half of the year starting with Superior Controls, an Engineering and Equipment manufacturer for the automotive industry. Travelling North America, his project was nominated for a Ford World in Excellence Award. The Christmas Ryan was 22, his grandfather and founder of Fin Pan turned to Ryan and asked for his help and his return to the family business.
While officially Fin Pan's engineer, Ryan has his hands in most every aspect of the business. Within a day, he could be found working on new product design, plant floor processes and pioneering the use of cement, concrete and foam products. He handles everything from technology, computers, images, technical questions to complicated design and application issues from customers.
Tune in for what is certain to be a fascinating discussion likely to go in as many directions as Ryan Schaffer's Day

My guest on Thursday, April 17th at 3 p.m. PDT on MetalSmith BenchTalk will be jeweler, designer, and educator Jayne Redman.
About: “Nature provides an endless reference for imagination and invention. The linear quality of stems and the fullness of flower buds inspire my jewelry. I enjoy integrating mechanics with design, allowing each piece to function in a visually intriguing way. I work with multiples of the same shape, engineering them to fit precisely, giving an abstract interpretation of their botanical source. Many years of metalsmithing have taught me the power of simplicity. My forms begin as flat metal shapes and arrive as small sculptures. Their complexity is in their conception as curving planes of origami.”
Jayne Redman earned her B.F.A. in Jewelry and Silversmithing from Maine College of Art in 1977. She began her career in New York as a design and production assistant in the fashion jewelry industry. She started her company, Jayne Redman Jewelry, in 1982. Jayne began developing the Floraforms™ Collection in 1995. In 1998, the American Craft Council selected a piece from her collection as “representative of the quality of work found at all ACC events” to use in advertising their wholesale markets.
Jayne has been featured in articles for Crafts Report, AJM, Lapidary Journal, Professional Jeweler, Niche, and Ornament magazines as well as a number of books. Jayne is a former faculty member of the Maine College of Art Department of Jewelry and Metals and teaches workshops nationally. She maintains a studio in southern Maine and is represented by fine jewelry and craft stores across the country.
