Those Sneaky Biases, Understanding OurJudgement in Mediation

    in Work

It turns out mediators are human, too.  Despite our best attempts to remain non-judgmental in mediation, our biases sometimes sneak into the process and affect how participants experience the mediation.
The radio blog will give listeners chance to understand our more subtle biases, identify how they may sneak into our language during the mediation, and learn strategies to manage them so that mediation participants can experience the process without judgment.
The show is to give an idea of the conference session content.

What I Learned About My Biases Listening to James Altucher

    in Business

I listen to James Altucher's podcasts whenever they are released. He is a very smart guy who interviews an eclectic group of guests.

Listening to James, I learned quite a bit about myself and how I discriminate in my evaluation of people.

Maybe I'll wake you up to a few of yours.

Hiring staff doesn't have to be hard, difficult, painful, exhausting or take so long.

For most organizations, the systems you have in place do not facilitate hiring well-enough but does a great job of facilitating "applicant tracking."

Sometimes you need recruiting help. Contact me at JeffAltman@TheBigGameHunter.us and lets figure out a time to speak.

VMN Episode 1 - Ferguson, Morality of "Use of Force", and Media Biases

    in Politics

This is the first podcast to come from Voluntary Media Networks (VMN) where I, Alex, talk about the Ferguson, Missouri incident and riots, about the ideas statists generally have when talking about the use of force, and about the general biases most protestors and viewers of the media have when it comes to issues such as the Ferguson incident.

Indy Power Rankings Weekly Reveal Show

    in Wrestling

Since January of 2013, we have been ranking the very best independent wrestlers on a weekly basis. This is a KAYFABE list, meaning it is not centered around our opinion of who the best worker is on a weekly basis, but rather, more sports-oriented in the thought process of wins being the most important factor in getting ranked. Many various independent wrestling writers spend their time debating who the “best in the world” is while we simply seek to prove it via wins and losses.

In order to be ranked and to avoid personal biases, we have a group of voters from around the country who have 3 main criteria for voting (in a similar manner to ESPN.com’s NFL Power Rankings):

    1. Win-loss record for the week & overall

    2. Strength of opponents for the week

    3. Overall public perception of the wrestler in question (i.e. Chris Hero has a stronger following than a regional independent wrestler who most people have never heard of)

We will be breaking down the Singles Top 10, discussing the Tag Team Top 5 and attempting to shed some light on the various wrestlers and companies that make up independent wrestling, so please sit back and enjoy the show!

Website (where YOU can participate in the weekly online poll voting): http://indypowerrankingsipr.wordpress.com/

The Mysteries of Human Existence with NASA Engineer David Gaggin

    in Spirituality

Are you curious about who you are and why you are living this life?

We each see the world we live in and understand our place in it from a unique and personal perspective. This perspective is shaped by a variety of factors - the influence of our parents and previous generations, religious beliefs, scientific discoveries, philosophical viewpoints, and our level of metaphysical understanding. Most of our outlooks in this matter have been formed with a substantial amount of biases and prejudices. Most of us have not taken extensive personal journeys of discovery with completely open minds.

Today's special guest David Gaggin has done that for us. With a scientifically trained mind he has.searched through an enormous amount of data and numerous different accounts and perspectives to create a realistic picture of who we are and why we are here. He says that enough evidence is available to convince even the most skeptical mind.

In his groundbreaking book, The Endless Journey: A Unique Perspective on Mankind's Origin, Purpose and Ultimate Destiny, David Gaggin brings the truth to light for us after years of compiling research from every perspective he could think of. He explains why our world, one that seems chaotic, irrational, and evil, is not really that way - that it is just an illusion we are experiencing.

David Gaggin holds a masters degree in Electrical Engineering. His successful career included working as an electrical engineer for Boeing, NASA, and the U.S. Army before he went on to create Cobham Defense Electronics Systems. Today he is here to share what he acquired through his quest for knowledge about the meaning of life.
