Assata Shakur 2 Million Dollar Bounty

    in Legal

"Twenty-eight years ago, in a highly disputed trial, an all-White jury convicted former Black Panther Assata Shakur of the murder of a New Jersey state trooper. In 1979, while serving a life sentence, she escaped from prison and eventually resurfaced in Cuba, where she was granted asylum and has lived ever since. But the U.S.. government has continued to pursue Shakur, regularly increasing the bounty on her head and classifying her as a “domestic terrorist.” Last May the Justice Department issued an unprecedented $1,000,000 bounty for the return of Assata Shakur, 65, who continues to maintain her innocence." (www.assata.org)
Joining us to discuss the placement of Assata Shakur on the FBI terrorist list will be Maati High.
    1) In recognition of the 40 years since the incident on the New Jersey turnpike that ultimately led to Assata Shakur’s exile, try to recruit 40 people or as many as you can, to sign the petition, and ask them to recruit as many as they can, and so on. The Eyes of the Rainbow - Assata Shakur Documentary
    by filmmaker Gloria Rolando

"Like most poor people in the United States, I have no voice. The Black press and the progressive media, as well as Black civil rights organizations, have historically played an essential role in the struggle for social justice. We should continue and expand that tradition. We should create media outlets that help to educate our people and our children, and not annihilate their minds. I am only one woman. I own no TV stations or radio stations or newspapers. But I believe that people need to be educated as to what is going on and to understand the connection between the news media and the instruments of repression in America. All I have are my voice, my spirit and the will to tell the truth. But I sincerely ask those of you in the Black media, those of you in the progressive media and those of you who believe in truth and freedom to publish my story.' -Assata Shakur
