Hey all, this is your Minister Of Defense, Xavier Smith, and today I am talking with Natalie Niekro of www.JoeNiekroFoundation.org.
Come find out about what she has to say and how you can get involved with this wonderful organization.
The Joe Niekro Foundation is committed to aiding in the research and treatment of aneurysm patients and families. Our goal is to raise awareness about aneurysm factors, causes, treatments and research. All funds are used to educate the public about brain aneurysms, to support patients and families, and to develop awareness programs and educational materials for hospitals, clinics, and other institutions worldwide.
Looking Back at My Life is hard to imagine all I’ve been through, but from what I’ve learned. I would go through it all again because of all the wonderful and amazing people who have changed my life for the better that I have met along the way!
It’s hard for me to believe sometimes that I have been through so many: Traumatic Brain Injuries, Aneurysms, AVM, a coma, a portion of my Braing being removed, and several rare and unusual medical procedures on my brain. That’s why can shout to the world that I’m thankful for every pain I’ve ever felt every hurt and hardship that I’ve had and many near-death experiences!
When I say the gift of life until all this all happens to me. I must truly admit I was clueless to the meaning of my life because I had no understanding of what life truly was about; it’s the most precious gift in the universe!
With Christmas and New Year’s and holidays coming it is my wish my prayers, My love of fellow man that any of you suffering from traumatic brain injuries or any related disabilities will have the most wonderful, inspiring Christmas season of your entire life because it is the season to be jolly.
Here at Dream Catchers on Brain Injury Radio we also want to thank all of the wonderful hosts and guests who come each and every night to all of our shows, because without you we would be nothing so I wish you all the happiest of Chrismas seasons and a peaceful new year.
Sincerely, Les Paul Morgan
Hereditary brain aneurysm, could it happen to you? Understanding Genetic Risks to Brain Aneurysms Cerebral aneurysms can “run in families” even when no genetic syndrome is present in affected family members. In these families, multiple people develop cerebral aneurysms due to an underlying genetic cause which is not yet fully understood.
Kimmothy and Rex will be doing a speical interview with David A. Miller, M.D., Neuroradiology and Neuroendovascular Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Additional comments by Monica Guterrez who tragedically lost her 11 year old daughter to a brain aneurysm.
In my late teens and early 20,s I had big Dreams of becoming a professional Moto Cross Racer much like the legendary World Champion Team Suzuki hall of fame Racer Roger DeCoster! I loved spending several hours per Day practicing stunts, jumping, and riding with my friend too get ready to race.
At that same time I would experience sometimes really bad headaches but never thought much about them and when they were over I was OK. Little did I know that age 22 I would suddenly scream with massive paine as I had just sufferd the 1st of 2 very severe Brain Aneurysms and later 3 TBI, s.
When preparing to do this program I got thinking to myself the brain is beautiful because even after TBI I found myself not wanting to live but at the same time my Family were fighting for me to fight for myself to recover and re train my Brain to re learn lost memories but also discover I am capable of Re-inventing myself after discovering I was still alive and thinking!!!
Now it’s time to practice living life again and finding the courage to learn new skill, find new friend, and go after our Dreams with gusto as we take the journey of a life time to rediscover and rebuild a new life after Brain Injury!
Natalie Niekro, President of "The Joe Niekro Foundation"
All too often, life throws us a pitch we aren’t prepared to catch. For Natalie Niekro, that curve ball came October 26, 2006, just four weeks before the fairytale wedding she’d been dreaming of all her life. On that day, Natalie’s father, a former major league knuckleball pitcher, Joe Niekro, suffered an unexpected and what would turn out to be a life devastating brain aneurysm. With her world turned upside-down, Natalie channeled her sadness, anger and frustration into her new life’s mission: Combating the enemy that prematurely took father. Leaving a successful career in the corporate world behind, Natalie started The Joe Niekro Foundation…Knuckling Up for Aneurysm Research, a 501 c-3 organization committed to awareness, research, treatment and education of brain aneurysms - the silent killer that affects 1 in 15 Americans.
With over $2 million raised to date, The Joe Niekro Foundation has created strong partnerships with Major League Baseball, multi-million dollar corporations and hospitals across the country. The Joe Niekro Foundation PSA’s have received nationwide coverage as television stations across the continent are “Knuckling Up” and joining in the fight against aneurysms. In honor of Joe Niekro, several of the Major League Baseball teams will feature Brain Aneurysm Awareness Day this upcoming season and The Joe Niekro Lectureship and Symposium on Early Detection and Treatment of Cerebral Aneurysms will take place this winter.
