In 2004, Kimberly Chapman suffered two ruptured brain aneurysms and was astounded by the lack of public awareness and sparse research of such a widespread and often fatal condition. Recognizing the need for brain aneurysm advocacy and other types of vascular malformations of the brain, she personally established several international support networks to provide information, resources and motivation for survivors and family members. Kim has created a patient advocacy program inside The Joe Niekro Foundation which offers patients and caregivers educational information along with a huge amount of resources to find help. This mission with the Joe Niekro Patient Advocacy Program is to help survivors realize that recovery is possible and will help patients learn what to expect during the healing process and new coping strategies.
The program is designed to motivate members to follow a wellness plan and to make a difference in the community, while creating a forum of mutual acceptance, understanding and self-discovery

In these four core services lies the meat and potatoes of the independent living movement, which is people with disabilities powered, community inclusion based, and a federal mandate in all 50 states and US teritories based on the civil rights for people with disabilities act, known as the ADA the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We are fighting for our rights and standing strong and firm in the belife that all people are created equally and reclaim ourselves as people of pupose as we strive to help others to get out of nursing homes, to work in the community, to get out of sheltered workshops, to bring down the Iron Curtain of dismay in disability, and start holding accountable the agencies that are supposed to support us and start taking control of our destiny. in Self Help
For many years had to ponder that question with a resounding no! I felt alone, helpless, hopeless, broken shattered, defeated and like my life had ended at the age of 22 with the brain smashing pain of my 1st aneurysm.

Looking Back at My Life is hard to imagine all I’ve been through, but from what I’ve learned. I would go through it all again because of all the wonderful and amazing people who have changed my life for the better that I have met along the way!
It’s hard for me to believe sometimes that I have been through so many: Traumatic Brain Injuries, Aneurysms, AVM, a coma, a portion of my Braing being removed, and several rare and unusual medical procedures on my brain. That’s why can shout to the world that I’m thankful for every pain I’ve ever felt every hurt and hardship that I’ve had and many near-death experiences!
When I say the gift of life until all this all happens to me. I must truly admit I was clueless to the meaning of my life because I had no understanding of what life truly was about; it’s the most precious gift in the universe!
With Christmas and New Year’s and holidays coming it is my wish my prayers, My love of fellow man that any of you suffering from traumatic brain injuries or any related disabilities will have the most wonderful, inspiring Christmas season of your entire life because it is the season to be jolly.
Here at Dream Catchers on Brain Injury Radio we also want to thank all of the wonderful hosts and guests who come each and every night to all of our shows, because without you we would be nothing so I wish you all the happiest of Chrismas seasons and a peaceful new year.
Sincerely, Les Paul Morgan
Natalie Niekro, President of "The Joe Niekro Foundation"
All too often, life throws us a pitch we aren’t prepared to catch. For Natalie Niekro, that curve ball came October 26, 2006, just four weeks before the fairytale wedding she’d been dreaming of all her life. On that day, Natalie’s father, a former major league knuckleball pitcher, Joe Niekro, suffered an unexpected and what would turn out to be a life devastating brain aneurysm. With her world turned upside-down, Natalie channeled her sadness, anger and frustration into her new life’s mission: Combating the enemy that prematurely took father. Leaving a successful career in the corporate world behind, Natalie started The Joe Niekro Foundation…Knuckling Up for Aneurysm Research, a 501 c-3 organization committed to awareness, research, treatment and education of brain aneurysms - the silent killer that affects 1 in 15 Americans.
With over $2 million raised to date, The Joe Niekro Foundation has created strong partnerships with Major League Baseball, multi-million dollar corporations and hospitals across the country. The Joe Niekro Foundation PSA’s have received nationwide coverage as television stations across the continent are “Knuckling Up” and joining in the fight against aneurysms. In honor of Joe Niekro, several of the Major League Baseball teams will feature Brain Aneurysm Awareness Day this upcoming season and The Joe Niekro Lectureship and Symposium on Early Detection and Treatment of Cerebral Aneurysms will take place this winter.
