  • Rex Sikes Movie Beat chats with actor Clint Howard

    in Film

Clint Howard, actor, has a career spanning over fifty years, and over two hundred film and TV shows.  He has spent his entire life entertaining us in a variety of interesting and unique roles. From childhood roles in The Andy Griffith Show and Star Trek to of course, the hit TV Show Gentle Ben, Clint was a well recognized personality by the time he was ten.Making the transition from juvenile to adult actor was no problem for Clint. Cult classic Rock N Roll High School and horror genre Evilspeak showed as an adult he could be versatile and affective. Whether Clint works in comedy classics like Waterboy, the Austin Powers film series or a hilarious episode of Seinfeld, he comfortably slides into dramatic roles such as Apollo 13, Frost/Nixon and Alabama Moon. Recently, Clint can be seen in the campy, B Horror title, Bloodrayne Third Reich and Rob Zombie's Lords of Salem. He's also put on the producing hat, teaming with long time colleague Gavin Grazer on an indie comedy. Born and raised in Burbank, California, Clint has always balanced his professional career with a 'hometown' oriented life. He continues to live with his wife Melanie in Burbank and stay active in the community. Stay tuned to Rex Sikes Movie Beat for other great archived interviews, cast and crew listings, events, festivals, premieres, and more at rexsikes.com

STRANGULATION: MORE COMMON THAN YOU MIGHT THINK

    in Current Events

Strangulation is can be lethal within minutes, and can cause a victim to black out in seconds. It's also used a lot by domestic violence perpetrators.  Sometimes it's not taken very seriously by courts or law enforcement, or even by victims, but as one survey indicated, nearly ten percent of women have been strangled by a partner in their lives.

Gael B. Strack is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder for Alliance for HOPE International and she knows a lot about what strangulation is and what it does to victims.  Programs of the Alliance include: National Family Justice Center Alliance, Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention, Camp HOPE America, Justice Legal Network and VOICES Survivor Network, and we will talk about what all this means and what can be done about it

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, HONOR CRIMES, AND IMMIGRANT WOMEN: THE COMMON FACTOR

    in Current Events

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, HONOR CRIMES, AND IMMIGRANT WOMEN: THE COMMON FACTOR

Domestic violence in the US, honor crimes in those “other” countries: are they really so different? And what can this mean for women who immigrate to the US and have experienced both?  What are the connections, what are the commonalities, and what are the realities for women of all cultures when it comes to victimization by intimate partners?

Jessica Winegar says the 18,000 women killed by abusers in the US between 2003 and 2014 are no different from the women killed in the Middle East or South Asia. She is the Harold H. and Virginia Anderson Chair in Anthropology at Northwestern University. Her research specialization is in the Middle East, and she has written widely on issues of gender, Islam, and global politics.  Penny Venetis is Executive Vice President and Legal Director of Legal Momentum and as Clinical Professor of Law, and Director of the International Human Rights Clinic, at Rutgers, she specialized in civil rights and international human rights impact litigation. She instituted women’s rights projects in the Rutgers Law School clinics, developed human trafficking advocacy projects, and recruited and supervised pro bono attorneys from major law firms to work on the Clinic’s landmark cases.

Join us as we discuss domestic violence, honor crimes, cultural similarities and differences, and the realities for women who are victimized.

Premier Broadcast - What are we and how can we help?

    in Entrepreneur

Facing life at 50 with less than $100K in the bank is not an uncommon thing and the average is around $87,000.00.  We followed our heritage and invested in cds, stocks, 401Ks and IRS that are making less that they ever have.

I started to research what other options are out there.  The stumbliing block for most of us is that most financial institutions want a minumum of $10,000.00 or more to start building your portfolio.  For years I thouroughly believed this and let my money get exhauted and rott in 401Ks.

What I have found is that there are many ways to start with as little as $25 dollars and these avenues have varying risk but even least risky investment is making 13% and above.  In my case I took a bit riskier approach and have reaped 150% gains.  I know this sounds like many folks out there trying to steal your money but I am an average Joe and it does work.

Having the confidence to take that first step and dip the toe in the water paralized me for over 30 years.  Now that I jumped in I can really say "the water's better than fine".  Setting up multiple streams based on my palate for risk has allowed me to support my self without working for 9 months, produced enough revenue to invest in other avenues and even buy a small marketing franchise.

Within the next three years I hope to totally become social security free.  And of course I want to share this with those that want a path or a roadmap.  It is not hard and I will help all I can as I now do not feel as chained to an existance of working for others.
