U S Stock Market Crash Imminent

    in Radio

There are 23 nations around the world where stock market crashes are already happening. So,you can stop waiting for a global financial crisis to happen. The truth is that one is happening right now. All over the world, stock markets are already crashing. Most of these stock market crashes are occurring in nations that are known as “emerging markets”. In recent years, developing countries in Asia, South America and Africa loaded up on lots of cheap loans that were denominated in U.S. dollars. But now that the U.S. dollar has been surging, those borrowers are finding that it takes much more of their own local currencies to service those loans. At the same time, prices are crashing for many of the commodities that those countries export. The exact same kind of double whammy caused the Latin American debt crisis of the 1980s and the Asian financial crisis of the 1990s.

Almost every single stock market in the world is down significantly from a record high that was set either earlier this year or late in 2014. But even though stocks have been sliding in the western world, they haven’t completely collapsed just yet.

In much of the developing world, it is a very different story. Emerging market currencies are crashing hard, recessions are starting, and equity prices are getting absolutely hammered.

Of course this is just the beginning. The western world is going to feel this kind of pain as well very soon.

  • Chew The Phat: Talking Civil War Reenacting with Guest Bob Philbin

    in Military

Reenacting the American Civil War began even before the real fighting had ended. Civil War veterans recreated battles as a way to remember their fallen comrades and to teach others what the war was all about. The Great Reunion of 1913, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, was attended by more than 50,000 Union and Confederate veterans, and included reenactments of elements of the battle, including Pickett's Charge. Modern reenacting is thought to have begun during the 1961–1965 Civil War Centennial commemorations. Reenacting grew in popularity during the 1980s and 1990s, due in large part to the success of the 125th Anniversary reenactment near the original Manassas battlefield, which was attended by more than 6,000 reenactors. That year, Time magazine estimated there were more than 50,000 reenactors in the U.S

The Renovation Report: Dave Wilber chats with Tommy Naccarato

    in Golf

TurfNet's Renovation Report is brought to you by Jacobsen and Golf Preservations. This episode's guest is golf architecture expert, golf historian and digital artist/Photoshop wunderkind, Tommy Naccarato.

Tommy's life changed forever after a visit to St. Andrews in the early 1990s.  Since that time, he has been an outspoken critic of the deficiencies in the design of many golf courses in the United States, in particular the works of noted architects such as the late Ted Robinson, Jr. and Tom Fazio while providing passionate support of the classic designs of Alister MacKenzie and George Thomas.

Tommy's passion for the game is unending. One of the leading voices on Internet golf discussion forums for years talks about how he turned his passion for art, architecture, golf and the digital world into his dream job. You'll hear Tommy's story as it led up to his work wth Gil Hanse on the Rio 2016 Golf Project.

Tommy also has a passion for golf course superintendents. Which comes out in every part of this interview.

One tidbit: "Superintendents are our stars, the real heroes of the business…  they lay themselves out on the line every day."

And another: "I truly believe in 'death to clueless green committee members'..."

Cubs Add Pitchers & Wins, Bears Youth Testing Vets, NFC North Preview: Lions

    in Sports

After sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubs are now locked in a tight battle race for the 2nd Wild Card spot. The upcoming stretch is a crucial one as they take on the Pirates, who currently hold the 1st Wild Card, before a 4-game series at home against the Giants who are just 1/2 game back of the Cubs in the Wild Card race.  With a starting pitcher and reliever added before last Friday's trade deadline, the Cubs have a legitimate shot to make the playoffs.  Let's all enjoy the ride!

The Bears had their first off-day of training camp today, but there's still plenty to talk about.  Rookie WR Kevin White is still MIA with a bad shin, rookies and 2nd year players are challenging veterans at several positions, and the players like what they see from Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio's 3-4 scheme so far.

Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Detroit Lions are trying to make the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the mid 1990s.  With several key losses along their defensive line, what can we expect from one of the best run-stopping defenses in football last year?
