Interview with Rev. Ken Turley, Artist of the Month
Rev. Ken Turley was born in Chicago in 1949, the son of Rev. Calvin and Marilyn Turley, and grew up in Bellevue, WA. For several years he taught guitar and bass, arranged music for and performed classical guitar solo and with a flautist. Later he played electric guitar in a jazz and rhythm and blues band around the Seattle area.
Tiring of the bar scene and having played in two productions of Godspell, he saw the possibilities for modern music with a sacred message. So he relocated to Boston, studied at and graduated from the Swedenborg School of Religion. He was ordained as a Swedenborgian Minister in 1985. In 2010, Rev. Ken was elected the denomination president of the General Convention of the New Jerusalem (Swedenborgian) Church, and served for two terms.
Playing cello, he and Laurie are members of the Mountain Top Community Orchestra and also perform as Rubato playing original songs and covers of the lighter side of rock, blues and jazz. Together with his wife, Laurie Turley, they have produced a total of eight CDs. Their music can be accessed at www.turleymusic.com or at the following websites: www.CDBaby.com and www.incompanywithangels.org.
