A Chat in the Garden with Monique A.J. Smith

K. Renia Edwards came to the Valley in October, 2014 as Senior Associate Athletics Director for

Compliance and Student-Athlete Affairs and assumed the role of Senior Woman Administrator in

July, 2015.

Edwards assists with the day to day operations of the athletics department, serves as the University

Liaison with the NCAA and oversees the development of the Student-Athlete Academic Support

Services and the Compliance areas

Prior to her service in the Valley, Edwards served in various roles at SC State University from 2010 -

2015. She served as Assistant Athletics Director for Academics and was later promoted to the

associate athletics director for compliance and internal operations. She was instrumental in bringing

GradesFirst software to the department and developing policies to assist with NCAA eligibility

certification and APR processes. Edwards assisted with the oversight of the Athletics Business

Office and served as sport administrator for Softball, Women’s Golf and the Men’s and Women’s

Track and Field programs.
