Success City Interviews Commander Kirk Lippold

Success City interviews Commander Kirk Lippold, candidate for US Congress from Nevada. Commander Lippold was the commanding officer of the USS Cole when it was attacked by al Qaeda suicide bombers in the port of Aden, Yemen, in October 2000. Commander Lippold and his crew distinguished themselves in the aftermath of that attack by saving the ship, which remains in service today.

During his distinguished career, Lippold participated in the Achille Lauro aircraft seizure, Black Sea Freedom of Navigation operations against the Soviet Union, and combat operations in the Gulf of Sidra following Libyan-sponsored terrorist attacks inEurope. Commander Lippold’s division officer tour aboard the USS Fairfax County included a deployment to Beirut, Lebanon when terrorists attacked the U.S. Embassy.

Commander Lippold played an instrumental role in crafting detainee policy for suspected terrorists during the initial stages of the War on Terrorism following the 9/11 attacks.

Lippold has announced his run for US Congress seat from Nevada which will be filled at least temporarily by a special election due to a Senate vacancy left by Senator John Ensign.  Regardless of the special election, Lippold intends to run for the permanent seat in 2012.
