Ariel Sharon, former Prime Minister of Israel, passed away last Saturday after an eight year protracted coma.
This brings new relavence to the words of the late Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri, the famed Haredi rabbi and mystic, who left a note to be opened a year after his death in 2006. The note said:
Concerning the letter abbreviation of the Messiah’s name, He will lift the people and prove that his word and law are valid. This I have signed in the month of mercy, Yitzhak Kaduri
The first letters of each word in the phrase spell out the Hebrew name of Jesus. It is not at all surprising that he wished his followers to wait a year after his death until opening the letter. Yitzhak Kaduri had indeed apparently met the Messiah, but announcing His Name would have come as a great shock to the vast majority of Israelis (and Jews in general), to whom the Name of Jesus Christ as Messiah is utterly anathema. Moreover, Rabbi Kaduri mentioned in a Yom Kippur sermon that the coming of the Messiah would not precede the death of Ariel Sharon.
