Sermon 137 "Spirituality of Rivers"

When I walk along the bank of the Illinois River, I feel an immensity, a powerful flowing, nearly invincible, rushing according to its own laws, oblivious to human fussing and folly.

In the Bible, the river is used literally and symbolically in connection with spiritual realities, including the inner presence and power of the Holy Spirit, a site where visions occur, and cleansing from sin in baptism.

Let's look at some scriptures dealing with the river and its spirituality.
