The Prophet Jeremiah has a very sad, scary, and unsatisfying life, when you consider it from the lens of normalcy and earthly happiness.
I relate so much to Jeremiah. He had a stern, ferocious message to deliver to the elites in his own nation and to the people around him.
He also was commissioned by God to scold and proclaim doom to all the other nations of the world, or at least the world that formed the environment of his land and time.
The book of Jeremiah is so strange and radical compared to most other books of the Bible.
It would be as if there was a book in the New Testament that was all about the ministry and sayings of a prophet who said God was going to destroy America (or your nation if you live somewhere else on the globe) and destroy all the Christian churches, burn them to the ground, bring an enemy nation against the USA, and all citizens had to submit and be carried off as slaves into the enemy country.
That's the book of Jeremiah.
In this lesson, we consider the bizarre alienation of Jeremiah from his friends, family, culture, religion, and government, and the rest of the world.
If you think you've got enemies and obstacles, and can't find a good church to attend, remember the prophet Jeremiah. There was only one temple in Jerusalem and it was totally corrupt and vile.
