A.J. Moyer is a poet and educator in Las Vegas, NV. An on-again/off-again performer in the slam scene since 2004, A.J. first became involved with the organizational side of slam in Santa Cruz and returned to Las Vegas determined to expand the poetry scene. He now sits on the Las Vegas Poets Organization advisory board, helps to run the Las Vegas Slam, and co-hosts a monthly arts & music festival called Talky Trees. A.J. has also worked with LV ARTreach and Western High School to bring poetry to youth in new and engaging ways. He has been on multiple National Poetry Slam teams and has competed at National Poetry Slam, but still believes his greatest achievements have come in classrooms and workshops where he has pushed to give local youth a constructive outlet for their emotions. He believes anything is poetry through the right lens, and even a city as image-obsessed as Las Vegas has a real beauty if you’re only willing to claw at the veneer long enough. He claims to be an overgrown adolescent with a beard, and is rather fond of cupcakes.
