Young Quik was born Erwin Gentle in Belize City, Belize, a small country in south Central America, Gentle was 2yrs old when he moved to the United States. Raised by his mother & grandmother, he attended Weemes Elementary School. Later he home studied for his high school senior year. He began rhyming at the age of 16, but took it as a hobby more than something serious. Based on the fact that Young Quik was home schooled, he found himself writing music more and more. Home school gave him alot of free time.
 
At the age of 18, Young Quik recorded his first song in the studio and couldn’t relate to it due to the fact that he never heard himself before. However, it didn’t discourage him from recording. Young Quik felt that school was more important than a hobby, so he went back to school. After school he would go home and continue to write. Once he finished school in 2009, he got back to the drawing board. After 2yrs of debating if music is the route he wants to take, he came to his conclusion that music is where he wants to be!
