The Lady In Blue

Her name was Sor Maria de Agreda. Sor Maria had the gift of bilocation, that is she was able to be in two places at once. Although she never left her convent in Spain, miraculously she was able to walk with the Natives in the New World and communicate to them in a way they could understand her. Sor Maria's cloak was made of dark blue cloth and because of this the Jumanos referred to her as The Lady In Blue. After receiving a letter from the Archbishop of Mexico, Father Benavides from Isleta, New Mexico, sent two padres with a group of Jumanos to investigate an unusual occurrence concerning Christan activity with Native Americans. They were greeted by thousands of native Americans with crosses covered with flowers. When asked how they came to know their Christianity they told the missionaries they had learned about Jesus from The Lady In Blue. Maria visited the Native Americans in the New World over 500 times.There is a legend told in Texas that the morning after her last visit, the land was filled with beautiful bluebonnet flowers as a gift to remember her by. This summer the people of San Angelo, Texas will come together for the second time to honor this miraculous event that happened near San Angelo Texas, along the Concho River.
