Dr. Walaya C. Methodius-Rayford was inspired to become a surgeon because she’s an admitted “technical sort” who likes to work with her hands – and demands an immediate result, which is satisfied by her profession.

“At first, I was going to be an anesthesiologist, but then I wanted to be on the other side of the table,” she recalls. “The field of vascular surgery is always challenging and I see it as a problem-solving endeavor – whether it’s vein repair or arterial bypass surgery to restore blood flow.” She finds she is “growing into” her purpose the longer she practices and through the many ways she keeps finding to make people happy.

Finally, when asked her advice for women who may be searching for their own purpose, Dr. Methodius replies passionately: “Look within. Find what excites you, then OWN it.”
