The Man from Cloud 9 expresses much of the science of Dreece's long relationship in Silicon Valley and his love of all things science. At the same time the book never veers from being intensely human.
Although the Earth of this book has been damaged through we can assume human degradation, the dystopian feel is very softly handled. The emphasis is not on the environment and neither does Dreece waste time building a hugely different planet from the one we now inhabit. Instead he spends his considerable abilities pursuing narrative arc and character development. And these are what make this book such a pleasure to read.
