A Chat with Gloria Orakpo

The stylish, smart Gloria Orakpo is a woman with vision! A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Mrs. Orakpo migrated to the U.S. after studying at a university in London, England for two years. She landed in Texas, received her degree from Texas Southern and, along with her husband, raised a wonderful family in the Lone Star State. Her son Brian now plays for the Washington Redskins and is one of the best linebackes in the NFL.

"It was very challenging because Nigeria is a highly populated country and the schools always filled up, so for some of us who couldn't get into school, we had to find alternatives to get education," she said. "I was very determined to get an education, so I decided to leave the country."

Now, Mrs. Orakpo is a business woman who owns a store in the Houston area. She believes in looking, feeling and living fabuolously. Her laughter is infectious.

According to Brian, Gloria is his role model. "My [role model is] mother, Gloria Orakpo, for the hard work she put in her whole life. She came from Nigeria and started life all over again. She's been a strong point in our family." The Washington Times
