The Winter Olympics: Is Sochi Overspending for 2014 Games?
Can Olympic host cities sustain the outlandish expenditures that we have seen over recent years? We'll discuss the upcoming Winter Games & the challenges that will be faced in Sochi and beyond on this week's episode of Game Changers Live.
Russian tycoon Vladimir Potanin is opening up his wallet as Sochi, the host city for the 2014 Winter Olympics, prepares for the athletes to arrive in 11 months. According to a recent NBC News article, wealthy Russian oligarchs & private investors are reportedly pooling their money & investing $50 Biliion (yes, b-b-b-billion) on the upcoming event. That would put the bill at 8-9 times the final tally from the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.
We've seen the financial market in Athens completely crash after hosting the 2004 Summer Games while brand new stadiums and arenas remain unused. Capital issues remain the primary concern, as Sochi organizers attempt to improve the public perception of Russia. But, finances aren't the only challenges. Weather may be another huge challenge that organizers will face. We break it all down on the show! Join us for the conversation.
Tune in Wednesday at 1pm ET as we provide a New View from the Sidelines...Olympic-style!!

Paul Winter, Earth Music
Today Laura Theodore, the Jazzy Vegetarian welcomes master saxophonist PAUL WINTER who is winner of six Grammy Awards and twelve Grammy nominations. We’ll hear about his 50th Anniversary Anthology album of the Paul Winter Sextet, and his journey as a musician and vegetarian. Look for the companion cookbook to Season Three: Jazzy Vegetarian Classics: Vegan Twists on American Family Favorites. (You can pre-order it now!) Paul Winter’s musical realm has long embraced the traditions of the world’s cultures, as well as the extraordinary voices of what he refers to as “the greater symphony of the Earth.” His concert tours and recording expeditions have taken him to thirty-seven countries and to wilderness areas on six continents. Winter’s forming of Living Music Records in 1980 has created the recording forum for the exploration of his musical-ecological sound-vision, enabling musicians to record special Earth Music and reach the human community with music of the wider earth community. The timeless music of Living Music Records is usually recorded in Winter’s barn-studio surrounded by protected woodland, sometimes in natural acoustic spaces such as the Grand Canyon, and frequently beneath the vaults of the Cathedral of St John the Divine, the world’s largest Gothic cathedral where the Consort are artists-in-residence. Paul Winter’s Winter and Summer Solstice Celebrations, and Earth Mass performed each Feast of St Francis, are among the most popular seasonal events in New York City.

The Winter Challenge
It is easy to disconnect during cold winter months from nature, but this can be some of the most revealing times. During winter plants and animals adapt and first appearances of lifelessness can often be wrong. Follow my thoughts on a 12-mile walk through Tioga Forest as I look for life and connection to it. See Lost in Leetonia blog to see my past experience living in the Forest of Tioga near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Area.Map of area

Should felons be allowed to vote after they serve their time? If music were an Olympic event, which five music artists (past/present) would you send to represent the U.S.? All of these th
