Buried Treasure of the Week: THE BLACK WINDMILL - "Dirty Harry"'s Papa Goes Mi6

    in Film

Both a loving tribute to legendary director Don Siegel (DIRTY HARRY, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, THE SHOOTIST) and an examination of his most unusual film - 1974's THE BLACK WINDMILL. Dismissed by critics during the early 70s action era as "too talky", Siegel's spy tale / kidnap yarn has in recent days garnered new respect among fans of intelligent, character-based espionage cinema in light of it's kinship with later thrillers such as THE CONSTANT GARDENER, the remake of TINKER TAILER SOLDIER SPY, and it's influence on the Luc Besson / Liam Neeson TAKEN films. Includes archival commentary by Siegel, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorcese, Curtis Hanson and others, as well as excerpts from Roy Budd's classic jazz / orchestral score, rare production stills and more. - CEJ

Rena Levine Levy -- Recapping The 10,000 Hot Dog Campaign

    in Radio

Did you enjoy your summer? Living and lounging by the beach in Monmouth County might make you forget about others in our area who are desperately in need and feeling the pangs of hunger. Summer is a season of hunger for children who don't receive the food they normally receive during the school year. One in every ten people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties receive emergency food from the FoodBank’s network of pantries, soup kitchens and other agencies. The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties teamed-up with Sabrett and WindMill Hot Dogs to raise money to provide food for those in our communities who don’t have enough to eat. The 10,000 Hot Dog campaign ran through Labor Day. Each $5.00 donation would deliver 15 meals and hope to struggling families. Additionally, Sabrett matched contributions to the project, donating up to 10,000 hot dogs. The fundraiser kicked off right before Memorial Day with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes playing a concert on the roof deck of the WindMill in West End. The 10,000 Hot Dog campaign ended Labor Day. In this follow-up visit with Rena Levine Levy of the Windmill and Peter Grote of the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, we’ll get the results of this ambitious campaign and learn more about other initiatives from the Foodbank to eradicate hunger in our area. After the interview, please visit After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more information.

Process Matters: Sustaining Your Momentum With Solid Process Making

    in Business

This week we are going to address the concept of PROCESS and the role it plays in overall time and energy management.  Process is one of the topics that people may not have considered as part of time and energy management. Process is a key element of STRATEGY; one of the blades on my productivity windmill. The windmill has a gear mechanism that works from within. The smoother, more consistently and faster the blades turn, the more productive you tend to be.  Process is the way that you do what you do. When it’s strong it is the mechanism that takes plans and turns them into results. Process actually oils the gears of the windmill and the it turns smoothly.  But if process is weak it’s like tossing a wrench into the gears!  All the planning in the world won’t bring you any closer to your goals if there isn’t a process for implementing them. Planning sets the standard while process implements that standard through structure. Process is the part of STRATEGY that bridges the gap to SUSTAINABILITY.

This week, Steven Drewes of Drewes Dynamics will be joining us to discuss cutting the fat from your processes so they are strong, effective and sustainable. Steven is the president of Drewes Dynamics, LLC and Lean Worldwide where their focus is to rapidly transform organizations and business cultures.  They are committed to enhancing all business processes and continuously adding value to their customers.  Steven is particularly known for his Kaizen Events where he teaches and implements his unique Lean System transforming businesses around the world.

Overcoming Challenges with the Heart of a Fighter

    in Business

This is a replay to celebrate my involvment with an amazing organization that supports an important cause. I was named President of the Board of Directors for Heart of a Fighter. http://www.heartofafighter.org/

This week we will focus on Championship Psychology, one of the three blades of my productivity windmill. No matter what we are doing in our professional and personal lives, the key to success is focusing on Psychology first! Championship Psychology forms the foundation for success. Without it, you may achieve results in the short term, but it will feel like swimming upstream; you might be able to work hard for a while, but it won’t be sustainable.

I am joined today by Suzanne Yvette who works closely with women veterans and breast cancer survivors.  Both groups of women face monumental challenges, and Suzanne uses her Heart of a Fighter method to help them not just overcome their challenges, but to grow stronger from those experiences. Suzanne will share with us how she uses the critical elements of Championship Psychology to effect big changes, and take people from surviving to thriving.

    Competition vs Collaboration

    in Business

This week we are talking about Winning Strategies, which is the second blade of my windmill.  Working smarter, not harder, is how you take your business to a new level. Winning Strategy helps you to become the owner of your business and get out of the role of operator. As an operator, you are easily lost in the day-to-day responsibilities, and are not able to provide strategic direction and positioning for your business. My Quantum Productivity Program reveals the best practices behind three elements that make up Winning Strategies, Planning, Process and Priority.

We will rerun this amazing interview with the founder of CEO Space, Berny Dohrmann to discuss the power of collaboration and the pitfalls of competition.

Rena Levine Levy -- Windmill Hot Dogs

    in Radio

Arguably, the Jersey Shore’s finest hot dogs, Windmill Hot Dogs have been loved by hungry people since 1976. The original location, a windmill shaped building on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch, was built and opened in 1964, and Leo and Ed Levine bought the restaurant in 1976. The rest, as they say, is history. In 1994, Leo recruited his daughter, Rena Levine Levy, from her position as Director of Food and Beverage at Stern's Department store. We'll meet Rena, a true hot dog maven, and find out how these Windmill hot dogs have grown to become the "biggest dogs on the block" with eight locations. Of course, these gourmet hot dogs have also received several awards including the Asbury Park Press Readers Choice Best Hot Dog in Ocean and Monmouth Counties from 1998-2009. The web site NJ.com rated “20 Jersey food experiences you must try before you die,” and the #1 experience was sitting on the deck atop the Windmill in Long Branch – eating a hot dog naturally! After the show, check out After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live! For additional information.
