The Needs of our Wildlife Friends
with special Guest Greg Mertz,DVM, The Odd Pet Vet
The nonprofit New England Wildlife Center (the Center) is a grassroots, entrepreneurial venture, launched by a group of Massachusetts’ citizens 33 years ago. They use the provision of humane medical care to orphaned and hurt wild animals as a real-life and engaging platform to teach the life sciences, with a strong focus on biology to provide hands-on training in veterinary medicine to undergraduate students nationally and internationally. At New England Wildlife Center – education is action. The Center hones stewards of wildlife, habitats and natural resources through our facility built to LEED specifications, an onsite nature center and biology classroom, a windowed veterinary hospital where the public can observe first-hand our collective impact on wildlife, and science education curricula proven to increase environmental literacy.
New England Wildlife Center is an example of our ability as a community to come together to solve real problems on our own, without leaving it the government, large institutions or, in other words, “the experts”.
The Wildlife Center owns the Odd Pet Vet, and has for 16 years treated the rare animal commercial veterinary practice.
Greg Mertz, DVM has over twenty-five years experience treating rare wildlife species..
All the proceeds at the New England Wildlife Center go to help with the care of wildlife and the delivery of education programs. They see approximately 60 species of animals on a regular basis. The more common the animal is, the more commonly we see it.
Call into the program, or submit questions on our facebook page and we'll endeavor to answer how you too can support the wildlife in your area.

Former Ford model turned international photographer Nancy Lee Andrews spent her early educational days, as she refers to them, in front of the camera. She became more interested in clicking the shutter rather than being the subject. One day while working for Milton Green and asking too many questions about photography, he handed her a camera and showed her how to load film and told her to go out and shoot and bring the film back. That was the beginning of a life long love affair with the camera.
A Dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll, a coffee table book, reveals the intimate access to music royalty that was accorded to Nancy Lee Andrews while she was engaged to Ringo Starr for six years. The photographs, beginning in 1970, present assorted iconic images that have become an historical imprint of that era. Among legendary names pictured in this compilation besides Ringo are John Lennon, George Harrison, Keith Moon, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Gregg Allman, to name a few. Currently, her photographs can be seen for the cover of Billy Ray Cyrus memoir, Hillbilly Heart, for Amazon.
