Can there be any REAL reparations for the Atlantic trading in enslaved Africans? If the enslaved Africans lost more than economic autonomy, why is reparations always framed in economic terms? Who exactly should be paying the reparations and who should be the beneficiaries? Shouldn't we at least wait until slavery is completely eradicated globally before we calculate the bill? And, isn't it time we moved past this particular scourge in history? The team of Yardie Skeptics addresses the reparations matter in this episode. How should the razor of skepticism and critical thinking be applied in this issue - surgically? Or is it time for hack and slashing? Our special guest in studio will be Prof. Verene Shepherd of the University of the West Indies and Chair of the Reparations Commission set up to interrogate the issue. Tune in and share your views on this controversial topic or just pass through to check out our resistance and liberation playlist with musical bombs from Marley, Tosh, and Burning Spear.

On this episode, we discuss undocumented detainees at Coalinga State Hospital (CSH). Why does CSH lock up men who could've been released directly to their home countries? Why bear the burden of over $240,000 per resident/year, with an indeterminate sentence? Taxpayers shouldn't be forced to pay for undocumented men to spend the rest of their lives locked up.
Before SVP laws were enacted, courts followed the law. When foreign nationals committed a crime on in the U.S., they served their time here then returned to their country of origin. Now, it's not that simple. Unpredictable rulings in SVP cases violate existing law. The undocumented have no rights. If found guilty of a sexual offense, they may be detained indefinitely! But at what cost?
On this episode, we speak to two foriegn nationals currently at CSH: 1 from Canada & 1 from Jamaica. Remarkably, our Jamaican guest has been held under the SVP Act since 1997--more than 15 years! At an average cost of $240,000 per year, that amounts to over $3.6 million.
Being in Coalinga, CA had a price for him & taxpayers as well. He caught Valley Fever. Because treatment was not provided in a timely manner, it spread--compromising his spine/hip. He's now wheelchair dependent & chronically ill. Thus far, his VF care costs amount to over $1 million, above/beyond the fees discussed above. Whether this man ever leaves CSH, he'll serve a life sentence--life with a permanent disability due to involuntary commitment at CSH. Why spend over $4.6 million holding a man who shouldn't be here? People should be asking more questions.

This broadcast will delve into a serious health & safety issue at Coalinga State Hospital: Valley Fever.
Valley Fever outbreaks at Pleasant Valley State Prison which is on the same grounds as CSH have been called a "public health emergency" in the media. The disease-also called Coccidioidomycosis-has made some men seriously ill & killed others. While Pleasant Valley has taken steps to lessen the risk of contracting Valley Fever, no one seems concerned about CSH.
Men at CSH have the same risks of catching VF from rampant airborne fungal spores. many are sick or dying. Just how safe are residents if testing isn't offered to at-risk men, or those w/symptoms? Why haven't high risk people been moved? Employees seem concerned for their own health, but no one's addressing the impact on CSH residents. How can those in charge of resident health knowingly turn their backs on this epidemic? Is anyone concerned for these men? How many must die for people to DO SOMETHING?
In 2010, Pleasant Valley stopped allowing inmates w/immune issues to be placed in their prison while CSH continued placing men w/illnesses like asthma. Valley Fever continues to spread like wild fire, unabated.
Why isn't CSH's Valley Fever nightmare being addressed in the media as Pleasant Valley's problems were? How can ANY concerns truly be addressed if CSH has no oversight when it comes to life-threatening issues like this one?
News/Views: In addition to tonight's topic, each episode we will also be discussing the currents events and information provided by people who either reside or work at CSH. Join us for this important show as we learn about life inside Coalinga State Hospital.
