Without question, the focus in public education is on getting all students to achieve – even in the most disadvantaged communities. In his book “Improbable Scholars,” author David Kirp argues that the New Jersey school district of Union City has hit upon a successful formula. It’s a strategy that isn’t flashy or even quick, but it may be sustainable. Mr. Kirp not only looked at test scores, but for a year observed teachers in administrators in their work. Please join host Ray Pinney as he discusses Mr. Kirp’s findings and what it might mean for everyone involved in public education.
Police union icon Ron DeLord retires from the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas on June 30th. Instead of being the one asking the questions, he will be sitting in the hot seat answering the questions. Matt Barnard and Ron York will turn the spotlight on him in a no holds barred examination.
We will be talking about the future for public safety unions and the future for Ron DeLord, as well as the history of the police union. We will be taking your phone calls during the second hour and hearing from a few surprise guests during the first hour. So, bring your rubber hose and spotlight. This will be the night that we get the real story.
He helped found the organization, Vietnam Vets Against the War.
He struggled with religious belief for years, breaking away from the Lutheran church when he was 13, dabbling in a bit of this and a bit of that – finding that everything fell short because of the wishful, magical thinking that was taught.
But then Paul Mopps discovered Deism. “Everything clicked into place,” he explains to the World Union of Deists’ host Tim Wingate in this pre-recorded show, “and everything else fell by the wayside.”
Mopps is now something of an “evangelist for Deism.” He’s got Deism.com bumper stickers on his mailbox, on the front door, on his trash can and vehicles, even on his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Paul has also opened the first Deist Reason Center in Washington State.
The Deist Reason Center will be open on most weekends. Nestled in a rustic setting, with a grill and picnic table on the premises, Tim Wingate jokes, “Just BYOB and BYOM – that’s bring your own Bible and bring your own meat.”
