    Slingin' Quack: We Did It!

    in Sports

Oregon beat Oregon State in the 119th Civil War game.  The first half saw Oregon's defense absolutely control the Oregon State offense, outside of the first drive.  The second half saw the Oregon defense completely check out of the game mentally and give up an embarrassing amount of success to the Beavers.

Scott Frost has left his role as offensive coordinator to take over the head coaching role at the University of Central Florida (UCF), that went nearly unbeaten with Blake Bortles and dropped to a winless record this past season.  I think this is a great opportunity for him to succeed.  I've heard that UCF's fan base is willing to start spending more money on the football program.  He's killed it at Oregon the last few years, leading the #2 offense in the country, and if not for maybe bad play calls in the teens he would be viewed in a much more positive light.

The basketball team is still undefeated heading into a game at UNLV.  It's technically a neutral site game, but it is at the MGM Grand, which is in Vegas.  But then again, I'm not sure UNLV really has a home court.  After the game against UNLV the Ducks play Navy at Pearl Harbor.

Jermell Charlo-Joachim Alcine, Tony Thompson-Malik Scott Review

    in Sports

Malik "King" Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) won a heavyweight showdown with Tony "The Tiger" Thompson (40-6, 27 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round on Bounce TV Friday night from The Venue at UCF in Orlando.

Scott controlled most of the action throughout the 10-round battle using his superior movement to control the pace of the fight. As he has throughout his career, Thompson refused to give in and scored a big knockdown with a thundering right hand in round nine.

The Halloween night broadcast of Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN took Houston's NRG Arena by storm as undefeated rising star Jermell "Iron Man" Charlo (27-0, 12 KOs) dominated former world champion Joachim Alcine (35-8-2, 21 KOs) in the main event by sixth round knockout.

Televised coverage kicked off with a thrilling showdown as Tony Harrison (22-1, 18 KOs) got the unanimous decision over Cecil McCalla (20-3, 7 KOs).

The final televised fight of the evening saw undefeated middleweight prospect Caleb "Sweet Hands" Plant (12-0, 8 KOs) capture a unanimous decision over Tyrone Bruson (22-6-1, 21 KOs).
