Today @ 1pm (CST) my special guest is David Emerson, E-RYT, Founder and Director of Yoga Services for the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute in Brookline Massachusetts, where he coined the term “trauma-sensitive yoga” and author of the book “Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Therapy”. He is the co-author of “Overcoming Trauma through Yoga”.
Trauma exposure is ubiquitous in our society. Over half the general population report having had exposure to at least one traumatic event over their lifetime, with 5% of men and 10.4% of women developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
PTSD has a debilitating negative impact on the overall quality of life of the individual. Seventy-four percent of the individuals diagnosed with PTSD are symptomatic for more than six months and may experience symptoms for years.

Trauma can come from many places--war, abuse, accident, events, etc.--and lead to symptoms such as flashbacks, guilt, hyper-vigilance, emotional distancing, and irritability. David Bothe, a holistic healer and founder of Hope & Haven Initiative, has developed a series of practices that people can use to shift their own nervous system to a healing state. He teaches individuals, caregivers, "battle buddies" and others to use these simple practices in the moment to make a positive shift.
