Here on Dream Catchers we are Advocating for changes in the TBI movement right now!!! It is time to do all we can when ever we canand repeatedly do everying possible using systems change Advocacy to fire up and motivate us all right now to destroy the glass ceiling that is holding a giant survivor Nation of Empowerd survivors back!!!
We as brain Injury survivors can make this happen! We have the power but we have to beleave and know that we do we do!!!!
As brain injury survivors we are the best people to speak about Brain Injury and have a need to know about how to get the World to listen to us.
I have learned that elected officials often will answer a letter or email and even a phone call from their constituents. I have found that they generally like to here from people in my state and our support group members have even received a call from the governor of our State.
We all as individuals and as a team should make a point to make a call or schedule a visit with our State, local or federal elected officials and let them know our concerns on brain injury policy because if we come together as a strong and united group we can change the World for people with TBI and related disabilities everywhere!
So I am hoping that we can come up with a list of things we should do to prepare ourselves for a meeting them in person or over the phone. Let’s get the ball up and running because I see great things are on their way to help empower brain injury survivors for a bold new future!
It's that time of year when everyone is on the hunt for the school supply list, the teacher wish list; and, that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle backpack that Target had online but can't locate in the store (oh wait, that's MY challenge at the moment).
Seriously, this time of year for many is filled with excitement but for children who learn differently and their parents--there is often very little to be excited about as the fights about homework resume.
According to a 2010 report from the National Center for Learning Disabilities, nearly 2.4 million students are diagnoised with LD and receive special education services in schools.
For parents trying to navigate this educational maze to obtain help for their child, it is often described as the equivilent of attempting to climb Mt. Everest in flipflops.
What do you need to know to advocate effectively for your child? What is an IEP? Who is eligible for a 504 plan? Is there really a difference between a 504 Plan and an IEP? What are the first steps in the IEP process? Does it really speed up the process to get your child tested outside of the school system? What are some types of things you as a parent or guardian can ask to have included in the IEP? We're going to cover all of this and more!
If you have a child that you believe may need extra help in school to thrive then this show is for you!
We will have Licensed Psychologist Dr. Arcella Trimble as our guest to help navigate the waters on Educational Advocacy 101 for Parents and Guardians as well as blogger Karen Wesley Weaver.
Karen's blog, Confessions of An Asperger's Mom (http://confessionsofanaspergersmom.blogspot.com/) has been featured on Mamapedia and is listed on the Top Mommy Blogs http://www.topmommyblogs.com (yes, please go vote for Confessions of An Asperger's Mom).

TBI Toxic Wasteland Electric Magnetic Radiation Concerns on Dream Catchers with Les Paul
Is America going to become a Toxic waste land or a place of peace and harmony amoung survivors. That is the question.
I never dreamed that I would be saying I never dreamed that this would happen over and over again whatever the subject so many times in the so called modern world. Or is it how can it be truly a modern world. When there are so many problems, so many people living in desperate poverty, so many survivors struggling and crying out for help what are we to do? Well join me Tonight and we will work on ways to do just that Together!
When the foods we eat are being genetically altered, their DNA being mixed with other life forms and creatures large and small being pumped full of chemicals all in the name of humanity and science what are we to doing to our planet?
When you go organic you passed hefty price to eat a healthy meal to try to protect yourself and your family and friends you buy as natural as you can even though more than 75% of all food are genetically altered!
Yes, the future is here and sadly we have arrived, but take a chance and dream with me of a day when normal is the normal and natural is the natural and homeopathic medicine is given a chance versus experimental medications that can harm you.
Join me tonight and be part of the discussion and help be part of the solution because we are what we eat and if were eating unnatural foods that were never meant to be mixed with other foods genetically modified or altered in any way sounds dangerous to me.
We need healthy foods in a healthy environment using natural ingredients, seeds, and natural pesticides to live a healthy more abundant and beautiful life. So join me on dream catchers as we search for the cure and clues to the answer to live a more abundant healthy beautiful life and heal our planet at the same time! I hear him
Back to basics. I find our TBI-selves "too smart" at times, to directional, to advanced, to authoritive on what we "assume" we know. Uh, in 2008, for several months - I did not even know my name (other than Matt). So, I can only assume, I really didn't, or don't, know much. With as much time I've been spending learning to live again? How could I?
But I have learned an avenue of TBI Recovery, and study TBI Awareness. OK, promote TBI Awareness. Why? From any angle of a brain injury, if you don't at least understand why this world needs awareness, then you must be greatly lost. Help us save the world tonight. Explain just WHAT your TBI is Aware of...
I hope to bring God into the picture tonight as well. Afterall, its Sunday, plus I met a new friend this week. Plus, baseball and racinig IS God's way. TBI Survival? YOU tell me...
Now then, is it August yet? Has anyone seen my vacation? **whistle** "here boy"
(424) 243-9540 and press #1 upon recorded answer. I have a habit of making everyone 'share'; 'hand up' or not...
The mission of Pan Africa Children Advocacy Watch (PACAW), Inc. is to nurture and develop a different generation of African leaders through the vehicle of ACCESS to a NEW EDUCATION CULTURE AT THE BASIC LEVEL. A type of education that will focus on turning the gaze of the children away from avarice, extortion, selfishness, the vain, and obsession with accumulation of material wealth, and prepare them for leadership that embraces living for a higher purpose.
PACAW will empower these children and young men and women, through education, to subjugate their personal and tribal interests to the interest and well - being of their nations. PACAW is focusing in particular on the education of students in the primary and secondary schools in the neglected and underserved communities in Sub-Sahara Africa. The parents and the local community, including the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), play a central role in charting the course of the future of the children in accordance with their aspirations, and also in the implementation of the objectives of PACAW, Inc. There is strict monitoring and accountability by the PTA, school officials and PACAW, Inc.
The goal is to have a critical mass of a new and different generation of African leaders who will champion de facto development of Africa by Africans. Our hope is that these " NEW " African nations will become productive contributors to the well-being of the human family of nations, and partners with the other developed nations rather than dependents drowning in a culture of chronic beggarliness. PACAW, Inc. believes that intelligence, capability, courage and good character are spread handsomely by OUR CREATOR across all segments of the human race. Thus, with the right type of education, and persistent help from altruistic and visionary mentors, the new leadership in Africa would be able to overcome the Continent's monumental problems.
Living with Hope After a TBI with Tonia Wittkower. Join Tonia this Monday evening, June 9th from 5:00-6:30 PM and the topic of discussion is sports injuries, focusing on TBI. Tonia’s guest will be Dr. Kim Gordens. Dr. Gordens is a renowned Professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Denver. She teaches the Psychophysiology and Clinical Neuropsychology sequence at the doctoral level, manages a portfolio of TBI-related research, and has lectured extensively on those issues (including a 2010 TED talk on youth sports concussion, several NPR spots and an interview on CNN with Anderson Cooper). She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology and is board certified in Rehabilitation Psychology. In other words, she knows her stuff, especially when it comes to sports head trauma, mostly football.
TMDS, BIRN, TBI Survivors Network, Race4Time, The Brain Injury Association of America, The Brain Injury Association of Indiana, Breathless Performance Racing, John Mills Racing, 'Over The Wall' host Jean Kinser Dana, Dr. Kevin Butterfield, Ernie Francis, "the remarkable" Ernie Ty Francis Jr (Trans Am Champ now, and future NASCAR Champion - I called it) have united to 'form' an auto racing 'team' to promote Brain Injury Awareness (I'll slide Recovery in, eventually...).
TOO COOL, and so needed. The intent is to provide information, discuss TBI with fellow Survivors who literally "banged their head against a wall", bring our everyday Brain Injury Family to the race tracks, meet the drivers and be guests, promote 'Guest Passes' to events for donors, and, well, much much MUCH more. BI Awareness where it needs to be - Racing, of the most popular sports world wide. The NFL can avoid the serious condition with a marketing 'ploy' all they want, but Racin' is the true 'game' across International Date Lines.
Join me tonight, and of course Sam Way, as we sit down with the Francis's and discuss racing, BI's and the future of Awareness. Doc and Jean are expected to join in, and share a lot of good news. Have I mentioned South Africa? Gina Gee is literally prancing around the Cape, awaiting a Skype call in tonight. Me too. She's an Angel of Hope, Mercy and Life. Not as is, but as will be. Uh, my staff of "one" currently has been a bit over worked this week. It's Water Ski time for RHI Sports this week approaching, as is time with Dr. Dawn Neumann and the new IU Interface Program of Imagining Research. Plus, its Father's Day, and Pop and I always go to a baseball game if possible.
So, take me out to the ballgame, and bring me back in time for Racin' tonight.

People usually only reach out only when they need help or there is a crisis but we here Dream Catchers we believe in community support, Peer to peer Support, and Systems change Advocacy and that there are people everywhere with and without disabilities who can learn a lot from survivors!
I met someone who doesn’t have a disability who is down on their luck. I invited them to come to our last Brain Injury Support group meeting and they came. They wound up telling people all over the community about what we are doing and in turn others started helping out and it turned into a beautiful thing!!!! Tonight we will be talking about building up Community services for everyone in need with is a true act of kindness indeed!
We could work together in a food bank or offer support in many ways but one of the harshest realities I have witnessed in the disability community is that disabilities segregate and separate from one another.
We all are fighting for the same pot of money the same rights under the ADA so why not all of us fight together on the same team for all people with disabilities and be 56,000,000 and for an unbeatable power house team of survivors that just simply believes that discrimination of any type is wrong!!!!
