Let's face it, sooner or later you will be stranded, on the side of a busy expressway, shopping mall, home, or even at work, in Metro Atlanta. There is no worse feeling for a mom or dad in need of immediate transportation for their family. Checker Classic Cab to the Rescue !
Mr. Orlando Perry, CEO of Checker Classic Cabs of Lithonia, Ga is a community oriented man. He started with a vehicle and a vision, to get his Metro Atlanta neighbors, to and fro, as its his passion to get people where they need to go safely and inexpensively.
However, it would not take an airport taxi trip to find out who Mr, Orlando Perry is, and why he carries a community torch for safe transportation. It is what he learned from his dad, Theodore Perry, and longtime family friend, Mr. Henry Mosley, of Jett Taxi, in Decatur, Ga.
Listen in to my national talk show, as he personally reveals to torch he wants to pass on ! He will discuss his Smart phone App to get a taxi to you 24/7 .
We open with cast from Multi-Ethnic Theatre's production of August Wilson's Jitney, running through August 31 at the Gough Street Playhouse, 1620 Gough Street (near Bush), in San Francisco. From www.wehavemet.org: "Some of the most talented Bay Area actors are people with day jobs who work in theater for sheer passion and true meaning. Jitney, set in the 'early fall of 1977,' in the Hill District in Pitsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a play about working class men, who provide 'transportation service' to their communities. Then and now, city cabs did not venture into certain communities. This play allows MET actors to bring their real life experience to the stage. The cast is a close knit group passionately dedicated to stories about an important public service: gypsy cab rides to and from African American communities." Joining us are: BENNIE LEWIS as Becker, a well respected man who runs the Jitney Station; VERNON MEDEARIS as Turnbo, a jitney driver who is always interested in the business of others; CHARLES JOHNSON as Doub, a longtime jitney driver and Korean war veteran; CHARLES JOHNSON as Doub, a longtime jitney driver and Korean war veteran; TREVOR LAWRENCE as Fielding, a jitney driver and former tailor with a dependency on alcohol; STUART ELWYN HALL as Shealy, a numbers taker who often uses the jitney station as his base; ANTHONY PRIDE, as Philmore, a hotel doorman and recurring jitney passenger; DAVID STEWART, Becker's son, recently released from prison.
We close with a show from the archives (4/3/14) which features Joanna Haigood and cast members, Antoine Hunter and Travis Santell Rowland, speaking about Haigood's piece Dying While Black and Brown.
Smith was born in East Orange, New Jersey. Smith is well known for her starring as Mimi in Jonathan Larson's Broadway production of Rent. She was also the poster girl for Rent, displayed on taxi cabs in NYC and posters across the country. Smith left the role of Mimi in the musical Rent on Broadway to record her album and expand her film career. She also starred in the movie "Notorious" about Biggie Smalls. She is currently working on her debut album and will be joining Spate Radio to talk about her new projects.
Bubba Watson won his second Masters tournament in three years. A number of people were cheering for "the other guys" becuase of comments Watson made last year when Jason Collins came out about homosexuality being a sin. Is it OK for gay fans to cheer against an athlete because of his beliefs?
The NFL Draft kicks off in three weeks, and a new report lists six teams with reported interest in the openly gay defensive end. Where is the best fit for him?
Please, taxi drivers in Cleveland refuse to drive cabs with Gay Gams ads on them!

Have you been looking forward to seeing a specialist and having a problem tackled that non-specialists don't work with? Then you know what it is like - that expectation and hope - that this will be the time. I didn't go looking for this appointment. I called to ask a question and because of that question, I was given an appointment. I was also sent blood work to have done. My expectations were high for that almost two month wait. The trip was costly - train, cabs in Manhattan, food - but I was going to get an answer so I bit the bullet...... for what? Stay tuned to find out.
Mott Haven residents rally over Fresh DiRECT NO GET THE REAL STORY BEFORE YOU RALLY RIGHT HERE CUTTING EMISSIONS FROM OUR DELIVERY TRUCKS. We love that our trucks have become a mass transit system for food, each one replacing the many cars and cabs that would otherwise be used to bring families and food together. We're committed to making our trucks as clean-burning and low-impact as possible. FreshDirect has partnered with Tri-State Biodiesel, a NYC-based company dedicated to providing the region with clean, renewable biodiesel sources. Tri-State uses cooking oil donated from our kitchen for use in non-toxic diesel fuel. In the next year, we plan to initiate biodiesel use in 100% of our delivery fleet. This action will both reduce emissions and cut back our use of
fuel products. Additionally, we are working with the city to identify locations for electrical outlets so we can plug in our trucks and refrigerate using electric engines. We hope to have our first plug-in truck in mid-2008. 2. REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF WASTE WE PRODUCE. We recently switched our delivery boxes in favor of boxes that use 100% recycled fiber content - no virgin fibers are needed in any FreshDirect box. We're proud to announce that within the next 3 years, we'll eliminate nearly all of our cardboard delivery boxes, replacing them with recyclable plastic totes and grocery bags. Since our facility was designed with cardboard boxes in mind, switching our systems will involve a complex re-engineering process. 3. FEEDING OUR NEEDIEST NEIGHBORS. We work hard to make sure that surplus food doesn't go to waste. Accordingly, FreshDirect is one of City Harvest's largest food suppliers, helping them to feed New York's neediest.
MARIA ROHRER, with the Chevrolet Marketing team, is interviewed by ALAN GELL about the new 2014 Chevy Silverado. This popular pickup truck has had a complete makeover.
The Chevy Silverado is the Best Selling Chevy vehicle in the United States. Crew cabs are growing in popularity. The new Chevy Silverado will come out with three distinct sizes in three distinct marketing categories: Light Duty, Full Size, and Heavy Duty.
Alan Gell conducted this interview with Maria Rohrer during a national media/press event in June at the historic Knibbe Ranch near Bulverde, Texas, just north of San Antonio, in the famed Texas Hill Country. The test drive took the new Silverado on the road, rock climbing off-road, through flowing streams, and even along the gravel beds of the Guadalupe River.
Amanda Ruggeri of Revealed Rome shares some tips on how to use Rome's public transportation.
1. Using the Metro - buying tickets, how getting lost is VERY hard to do, avoiding pickpockets, why there are so many stairs to get to the platform, and prices.
2. Cabs - hailing a cab, prices, avoiding the scams. I know cabs aren't public transportation, but it's important to talk about them.
3. Buses - where to buy your tickets, not getting fined, how to enjoy the bus lines to experience more of Rome.
4. Trams - Getting to the outskirts of Rome, enjoying the ride.
5. Flat Rate fare from the Airports to Rome's center in a cab - prices.
6. A couple of funny stories so you will all learn from our mistakes.
