The TalentCulture #TChat Show is back live on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, from 7-8 pm ET (4-5 pm PT).
Last week we talked about how 2015 will be the best year for recruiting since 1999, and this week we're going to talk about the three elements of a clear and compelling business vision.
Developing business vision and strategy are difficult to execute. Most leaders default to actions steps and tactical plans and spend most of their time here. Even if they invest up front to create the vision, sustainable investment is short-lived.
Plus, less than 10% of the organizations she's visited are led by managers who have a clear sense of where they are trying to lead people.
What to do? For a business vision to be compelling and provide ongoing guidance, it must illuminate all three elements of a compelling vision including purpose (or mission), values, and a clear picture of a desirable future.
Join TalentCulture #TChat Show co-founders and co-hosts Meghan M. Biro and Kevin W. Grossman as we learn about the three elements of a clear and compelling business vision with this week’s guest: Dr. Jesse Lyn Stoner, Founder of Seapoint Center for Collaborative Leadership and co-author of the bestseller Full Steam Ahead: Unleash the Power of Vision.
Thank you to all our TalentCulture sponsors and partners: TalentWise, Dice, Hootsuite, SAP/SuccessFactors, IBM Smarter Workforce, CareerBuilder, PeopleFluent, Fisher Vista and HRmarketer Insight.

1 peter 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[c] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

We had a chance in January to visit at his Washington Hall office at West Point, Brigadier General John Thomson, the Commandant of Cadets. Gen. Have you ever wondered how those businesses did it? The ones where they have an amazing following, are growing by leaps and bounds, and are getting more high quality leads than they know what to do with?
Well, our guest Kent Clothier, shares with us his most valued, insider secrets, on how he grew his business from doing "ok" to doing "amazing". How Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube will help you in that journey. And what your strongest piece of marketing is.
Narrow seas, unseen mines, punitive expeditions, and "come as you are" ASUW on the sea and in the air.
Yes, it has been a quarter-century, but little has changed since the USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS (FFG-58) struck a mine, and in retribution, the US Navy launched Operation PRAYING MANTIS.
The tactical and operational aspects of each, as well as combat leadership, remain constant even while the tools may have changed a bit.
To discuss this an more, our guest for the full hour will be Brad Peniston, author of "No Higher Honor: Saving the USS Samuel B. Roberts in the Persian Gulf," recently released by the Naval Institute Press in paperback and on Kindle.

THE NEW TOTALITARIAN STATE
The saddest part about mass delusion, mass confusion, and mass media collusion is that even though we are moving towards Orwell’s totalitarian vision of society, thus far, technology, triviality and an unending array of distractions have lured the masses into passive preoccupation with egotistical pleasures. We’ve been persuaded to love our servitude while drowning in a sea of irrelevance, diversions, and trifles. We continue to amuse ourselves to death while forging our own chains of debt and yielding to the direction of an all-powerful welfare warfare surveillance state that promises to protect us from phantom threats while actually abolishing our rights, freedoms, and liberties. No coercion necessary. We have been trained to love our servitude.
“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.” – Aldous Huxley – Brave New World
My process is based on the more extensive Weekly Review in David Allen’s Getting Things Done system. My version is a bit shorter, but in my opinion still highly valuable and easier to emulate (as well as stick with on a regular basis).
It starts with a comprehensive inventory of projects. I keep these in Outlook Tasks tagged as “Projects – Active”. For me, a project is anything that’s more than one task. Something I can’t or won’t get done right away.
These projects cover a lot of ground. All work-related projects (for the business, for clients, for staff, etc.), all household projects, things I need to do in my personal life, etc. I use this as a safety net to keep track of all the more comprehensive things I want to get done. Oftentimes, if I come up with a project in the middle of the week that doesn’t need to be worked on right away, I’ll add it to the Project list and literally “forget about it” until the next weekly review.
Identify an immediate next steps for my task list: If it’s something I haven’t worked on yet or in awhile, I quickly identify the immediate next thing I need to do – the tactical, single next task – to move that project forward. Typcially this gets assigned to myself as a to-do later in the week. I don’t worry about whatever task comes after that. This usually gets notated once the first task is complete, or there’s next week’s review to pick it back up again.
Make a note to ask for an update on something I’m waiting for: Sometimes I’m waiting for a deliverable or update from someone else, and the weekly review helps me remember to ask for and get that more quickly
