    Swords and Space IV: Dredd

    in Entertainment

Swords & Space Radio originally started as part of the Restoration Radio network before moving to AMDG Radio.  This episode was recorded prior to that move.
Join Nicholas Wansbutter, Stephen Heiner, and guest Brian S. Pauls as they discuss one of the most underrated and exciting movie releases of 2012: Dredd (See N. Wansbutter's review). Despite a poor box-office performance, Nicholas is convinced that this will later be remembered as a sci fi classic up there with Blade Runner. Tune-in to hear why.
Brian S. Pauls, president of Peraspera Consulting, L.L.C., joined us previously on our Game of Thrones show, and will again share his love and knowledge of sci-fi and fantasy for another compelling discussion.
We will be taking questions via Facebook (facebook.com/swordsandspace), email (NWansbutterEsq@gmail.com), and via phone at 949 272 9417.  Join us!

Swords and Space XXIV/Culture of Comics #27: Guardians of the Galaxy

    in Entertainment

After the July network break, Swords and Space is back with a cross-over episode withe (sadly discontinued) Culture of Comics to discuss the most recent summer Marvel blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. Due to the crossover format, rather than discuss a novel, we'll talk about the comics that inspired the Guardians film. Swords and Space hosts Nicholas and Richard Wansbutter will be joined by Culture of Comics hosts Stephen Heiner and Jason Frazier for what's sure to be a fun-filled return to production after the break.

We were going to discuss the film Jupiter Ascending this episode as well, but that film's release has been delayed six months to February of 2015 -- certainly not a good sign, but we will probably still review that movie when the time comes.

This week we discuss one of the all-time classic tales of fantasy fiction, J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. We will be focussing on the novel, and its roots in Anglo-Saxon mythology, but some mention of the recent Peter Jackson film will no doubt be inevitable.
Your host Nicholas Wansbutter will be joined by Matthew Zepf of Brav's Index, a newly launched science fiction and fantasy website. He holds a degree in Rhetoric and Literature at the University of Waterloo and is a passionate writer of sci fi and fantasy.

Swords and Space V: Game of Thrones

    in Television

Swords & Space Radio originally started as part of the Restoration Radio network before moving to AMDG Radio.  This episode was recorded prior to that move.
This week we will take a look at the phenomenon of A Song of Ice and Fire, better known as A Game of Thrones, a highly popular but troubling work in the view of at least one host (See N. Wansbutter's review). We will discuss both the novels and the HBO television series with guest Brian Pauls.
Brian S. Pauls is a long-time aficionado of literature, television and movies in the science fiction and fantasy genres. He appreciates hard sf, high fantasy, space opera and gritty pulp adventure. Brian believes in watching the movie first and then reading the book because he's less likely to be disappointed that way.He agrees with the wise man who once observed "The Golden Age of science fiction is 12."
