    SERIAL-Susan Simpson

    in Entertainment

In 1999, the body of Hae Min Lee was found in a shallow grave in Baltimore's Leakin Park. Six weeks later, her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was arrested and charged with her murder. The state's case against Syed hinged entirely on the testimony of Jay Wilds, who said that he had been with Syed on the day of the murder, and that he had assisted with the burial in Leakin Park. At trial, the prosecutor argued that although Wilds had repeatedly given false and inconsistent statements concerning the crime, his story was corroborated by Adnan's cell phone records. Syed was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison; Wilds pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact, and was released without serving a day in prison.

Last year, the creators of This American Life covered Syed's story in the popular podcast Serial. In order to better visualize the events that were being described on the show, Attorney Susan Simpson put together a series of maps comparing the location data from the cell records with the various witness statements concerning the location of the phone throughout the day on which Hae Lee was murdered. The result showed just how fragmented and incoherent the prosecution's case was, as none of Wilds' multiple stories can be reconciled with the cell phone data. It also highlighted many of the gaps in the prosecution's evidence, and showed how numerous witnesses who could potentially have confirmed or denied Jay's stories were never contacted by investigators. Susan Davis, Physical Therapist for Animals at Joycare Onsite LLC

    in Radio

We already know that Dr. Doolittle was able to converse with animals, and I’m thinking that Susan Davis possesses the same gift. Susan is a NJ Licensed Physical Therapist, and these days her patients are typically 4-legged. The benefits of physical therapy for animals have been widely accepted in the veterinary community for many years, but is a relatively new field in the US. The goal of physical therapy for animals is to improve quality of life and decrease pain -- same as for humans. Although most veterinary practices offering physical therapy are geared toward canines, techniques used in this discipline can also be applied to horses, cats, birds, rabbits, rodents and other small animals. Susan has worked on many types of dogs from an Australian Cattle Dog to a Yorkshire Terrier. Recently she had an opportunity to do some rehab on a large pig (yes, a large pig) and we’ll learn what other animals Susan has helped out with some PT and her magic touch. In 2013, Susan authored and self-published the book Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation for Animals: A Guide for the Consumer, and she also writes guest articles for pet-related blogs on a monthly basis. Some conditions in animals that benefit from PT include arthritis, hip dysplasia, and spinal deformity. Susan will share how she changed focus as a PT and began her healing work with animals. She is a member of the International Association for Veterinary Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy. After the interview, please check After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info.

Goddess Alive Radio with Author, Poet, Essayist, & Playwright Susan Griffin

    in Women

Susan Griffin is a poet, essayist, playwright and screenwriter. She was born in Los Angeles California in 1943, in the midst of the Second World War and the holocaust, and these events had a lasting effect on her thinking. The time she spent as a child in the High Sierras and along the coast of the Pacific Ocean also shaped her awareness. As she draws connections between the destruction of nature, the diminishment of women and racism, and traces the causes of war to denial in both private and public life, her work moves beyond the boundaries of form and perception. She is known for her innovative style. Her groundbreaking book Woman and Nature: The Roaring inside Her is an extended prose-poem. A Chorus of Stones: the Private Life of War, blends history and memoir as does Wrestling with the Angel of Democracy: On Being an American Citizen her most recent book (published by Trumpeter books in April, 2008.) This work explores the state of mind that engenders and sustains democracy.  Susan was also one of the Editors for Transforming Terror: Remembering the Soul of the World  released in 2011.  Connect further with Susan at SusanGriffin.com.

Amber Schamel and Susan J. Reinhardt!

    in Books

Multi-published author Amber Schamel writes riveting stories that bring HIStory to life. She has a passion for history, books and her Savior. This combination results in what her readers call "historical fiction at its finest". A homeschool graduate from a family of 12 children, Amber found her calling early in life. First published at age 21, she has continued to hone her craft and was honored to be a judge of this year's ACFW Genesis contest. Between ministry, family and working in their family businesses, Amber loves to connect with readers. Find her on the Stitches Thru Time blog, or on any of the major social media sites.

    http://amberschamel.com/

Susan J. Reinhardt started off as a non-fiction writer. Her publishing credits include: LIVE!, Vista, The RevWriter Resource, The Secret Place, and numerous other periodicals and anthologies.

She changed gears and began writing fiction after an experience in Gettysburg. Surrounded by history, she *heard* the voices of the forefathers as fading echoes. Attempts to write a poem or non-fiction piece were unsuccessful, so she put the thoughts aside and prayed.

Eight months later, Susan and her late husband were discussing that event when he declared, "That's it! That's your book, and it will be written in 4 months and be called Ghosts of the Past."

The first draft was written in 4 months and underwent a name change to Echoes of the Past. Later, it became The Moses Conspiracy. Now, after 2 years of caring for her husband through cancer until his death and 6 years of honing her fiction skills, The Moses Conspiracy has been published.

A widow, stepmom, daughter, and follower of Jesus Christ, Susan enjoys reading, couponing, gardening, family time, and searching for small treasures in antique shops.
