Let's face it. The low carb/high fat approach is still not politically correct. Eliminating added sugar is getting lots of support in the media these days from films like Fed Up, and books like Fat Chance by Dr. Robert Lustig.
The truth is, I didn't just eliminate sugar in order to lose more than 65 pounds, and keep it off (with a 6 month period of re-gain which I will describe on today's show) for six years and counting. I also completely eliminated grains, I ate more fat, and most shocking of all, I occaisionally practiced intermittent fasting. I was truly afraid to tell anyone how I had lost all my weight, let alone write publicly about it.
Then, I saw Dr. David Perlmutter on the Dr. Oz Show. He was talking about his book, Grain Brain. I bought the book, read it, and followed Dr. Perlmutter's dietary approach in order to get back to my happy weight. The most important conviction I gained from Grain Brain was that I never ever had to eat grains again. Finally, I had the courage to write my story, and share my own approach to sugar and grain free living. If you've decided to let grains go for good, I hope you'll listen today, and read Grain Brain, by Dr. David Perlmutter

Every day we struggle to eat healthy, but still American's eat an average of 130lbs of sugar a year per person. This increase in sugar has lead to an epidemic of obesity and diabetes. Many times we think we are eating healthy but let me tell you: Some of the "healthy" foods that are sold to us contain large amounts of sugar leading to large amounts of pounds around our waist. Learn just how much sugar is in your breakfast and some delicious substitutes to start your day on the healthy path.
Hey, Sugar! O how I love thee! We all love the sweet stuff, don't we? Who doesn't? Unfortunately, our bodies don't love it as much as our taste buds do. As rate of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and metabolic syndrome skyrocket, some people are searching for the root causes of these issues.
One root cause, and something completely within our control, is our sugar consumption. Americans on average consume 120 to 180 pounds of sugar a year, up from up from 18 pounds in the early 1800s. A ten fold increase. Think about that! Given this, it's no suprise we are seeing the rates of obesity that we are.
