Visiting the Picasso museum in Barcelona, Spain, years ago led me to see an interesting and amazing thing. People—such as Picasso—who become masters of their areas of life, seek simplicity. Truth is simple. Dianne Morris Jones has created a very simple way of dealing with stress, an approach than can easily be taught to a young child. One major human emotion, shame, creates an overwhelming amount of stress in human lives. As a student of Brene’ Brown, and a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator and Consultant, Dianne has a lot to say about how to reduce the stress of shame. Let’s get free of unneeded shame together! Click to visit Dianne Morris Jones website and read more about her books!

Tonight's special guest is Dr. Pamela Pine, PhD, MPH, founder and CEO of "Stop the Silence: Stop Child Sexual Abuse, Inc.", a non-profit, charitable 501(c)3 organization, with a Mission to expose and stop child sexual abuse and help survivors heal worldwide. Their goals are: 1) to promote healing of victims and survivors; and 2) to celebrate the lives of those healed. Through their work, "Stop The Silence" aims to address the relationships between CSA and the broader issues of overall family and community violence, and violence within and between communities. Their focus underlines the importance of a shift in focus on positive development within our social complexes (e.g., the relationships between men, women, adults and children, cultural groups) to support peaceful - and to hinder violence-prone - relationships. "Stop the Silence" is also known for its annual "Race to Stop the Silence" event held in Washington DC each April and for its partnerships with such organizations as the annual International Violence and Trauma (IVAT) convention in San Diego and "The Lamplighters Movement."

For some people, stress and pressure are badges of honor. Many people talk proudly of how much stress they are under. The implication is that these people are stressed because they are doing very important work and have a significant amount of responsibility.
On the other hand, for some people, admitting to having stress is a display of weakness. Women (studies show) feel more comfortable using the term "stress" than men. They describe feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, and tension as stress. Even depression is often described as a symptom or a result of stress.
Whatever we call it, prolonged stress is not healthy and should not be touted as an essential part of life. However, new findings have come to light that tell us it is not the stress itself that is dangerous but whether or not we believe we are stressed. In other words, it's the way we "feel" about stress that makes stress stressful.
So, if we feel stress is harmful and we talk about how bad stress is for us, we make it even worse. If we don't see stress as bad or harmful, it won't be. The power of the mind should not be underrated. You can do lots of simple things to manage your stress. Join Choices host, Judi Moreo, author of You Are More Than Enough, and learn what you can do.
