    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Edward (Ed) Mashek from North Carolina, a child abuse survivor who grew up in foster care. Ed's an active volunteer member of the NAASCA family and is involved in numerous efforts to combat childhood trauma. Ed's a tireless advocate, author, and activist for foster youth, abused children, and all victims of abuse. He has a B.S. in Psychology, an MBA, and is a member of Psi-Chi, the National Honor Society of Psychology. Ed serves as a board member for NAASCA, the National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse, as a co-host and regular panelist on the "Stop Child Abuse Now" (SCAN) radio program, and is a member of RAINN's (the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) Speakers Bureau. His motivation comes from his own time growing up in an abusive foster home and his desire to prevent others from having to experience the things he did. Ed has spoken at conferences, before governmental committees, and at the US Capital. In July he will be speaking at the SCRIPT conference in Los Angeles, which will be dealing with issues unique and specific to male survivors of trauma and abuse. In August he will be relocating to SE Asia where he will serve as NAASCA's official regional representative and continue his fight against child abuse. Read his BLOG

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1117

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Lakeisha Smith from Rochester, New York and a child abuse survivor. "Everything we do and go through is for a reason. We may not know what those reasons are but we are not the ultimate decision makers...GOD is," she writes. "I am trying my hand at it all. I look forward to pursing my dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur. As long as God is with me, nothing can stop me! Its just a matter of time, hard work, and dedication before it becomes a reality." Molested as a child by her father (her mother didn't want to hear about it), Lakeisha withdrew inside herself, keeping the secret. Eventually she sought help and was given an understanding that she still has today .. that the sexual abuse was not her fault, and not her mother's fault either. As she says, "Through her therapy she was able to pull herself out of a dark place in my life." Lakeisha has produced a couple autobiographical "My Childhood Story" YouTube videos (part 1 & part 2). She descries them by writing, "My childhood story is an autobiographical documentary about my unfortunate experience with child molestation. This documentary is a brief insight on how child molestation affected my life and how I have moved past that point in my life with the purpose to help others." Lakeisha's been preparing herself to be an even more effective anti-child abuse advocate. "I would love to take part [on our talk show] and tell my story to help others." And she continues, "It is going to be very helpful with my advocacy efforts along with information that I currently have. My interest in CSA comes as a result of my unfortunate experience as a child."

Help Stop The Genocide In American Ghettos

    in Culture

Help Stop The Genocide In American Ghettos is part of (GRCAM) the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement which is an umbrella term which covers all of the social groups Mr. Emmanuel Barbee has created online since 1991. Emmanuel Barbee is trying to create a coalition based on his revised book “The Solution For Black America: Reclaiming, Rebuilding, And Restoring The Urban Ghettos In America” Second Edition. Help Stop The Genocide In American Ghettos is an online advocacy group to raise public awareness about the atrocities which is taken place in American ghettos or urban communities. Since Emmanuel lacks support from established black organizations in his city he decided to create social groups and promote his revised book in hopes to generating capital so that he can hire 30 qualified individuals to assist him in jump starting his organization in the murder capital of America Chicago.

Since 2001, over 4,000 people has been murdered in Chicago alone and yet no black leader in his city has a plan on how to solve urban violence. For twenty three years Emmanuel vision to improve Urban America has been ignored this is why he decided to make his organization private so that he can focus on those who want to work with him and for those who want and need his services. Through his organization he hopes to form a coalition of religious leaders and human rights organizations in the United States to solve these social conditions one community, one city, and one state at a time. He will only focus on 25 cities within 25 states. The Grass Roots Community Activist Movement will create a more effective and collective voice by including local residents who are clients or members in the decision making process and who are dedicated in preventing violence.

  • Stop Look Listen A Great Change Can Come About

    in Christianity

How many people you know that needs a great change to come about in their lives? I for one need a change daily as I grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But I must stop, look, and listen. The key to a successful life is to have all the right components in the right place at the right time. Jesus is the right component but we must apply him to the right places at the right time. A Personal  Bible Study, Prayer, Faith, and patience brings about a successful life.

Americans Unite to Stop Toll Roads and Save the American Freeways

    in Politics

Attention American Transportation Leaders - It is Time to Stop Toll Roads and Restore our Freeways!

Guests: Terri Hall - Texans for Toll-free Highways

Patrick Hand - Stop  the Tolls

Americans know there are better ways to fund highways than TOLL TAXES.  We know everyone's cost of living goes up with the cost of transportation. We know everyone benefits from transportation regardless of how many miles they drive on the highways.  We know it is wrong for our local, state and federal representatives and quasi-governmental agencies to sell-off public infrastructure to foreign corporations. We know "Public Private Partnerships" are nothing more than a major source for governmental corruption.  We know these individuals/representatives, quasi-governmental agencies and P3s are NOT working in the best interest of the American people. We know it is up to us to demand changes in transportation.

The time is now for Americans to come together to shut-down toll roads across the U.S.A.  We can shut-down the toll roads if we work  together.

Here are some of the grassroot groups working to stop toll roads:

Tonight's special guest is Dr. Pamela Pine, PhD, MPH, founder and CEO of "Stop the Silence: Stop Child Sexual Abuse, Inc.", a non-profit, charitable 501(c)3 organization, with a Mission to expose and stop child sexual abuse and help survivors heal worldwide. Their goals are: 1) to promote healing of victims and survivors; and 2) to celebrate the lives of those healed. Through their work, "Stop The Silence" aims to address the relationships between CSA and the broader issues of overall family and community violence, and violence within and between communities. Their focus underlines the importance of a shift in focus on positive development within our social complexes (e.g., the relationships between men, women, adults and children, cultural groups) to support peaceful - and to hinder violence-prone - relationships.
