#NASASocial, Hubble Space Telescope at 25, Space Exploration and Social Media

    in Science

On Thursday, 23-April, I had the privilege of attending a NASA Social Media Event at the Newseum in Washington, DC and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope.

NASA Social is "a program to provide opportunities for NASA's social media followers to learn and share information about NASA's missions, people, and programs. NASA Social is the next evolution in the agency’s social media efforts. Formerly called NASA Tweetup, NASA Social program includes both special in-person events and social media credentials for individuals who share the news in a significant way. This program has brought thousands of people together for unique social media experiences of exploration and discovery."

Please join me and my guest host and fellow NASA Social Alum Kathie Hagen as we talk about our experiences at NASA Social Events, the awesomeness of Hubble and it's successor, the James Webb Space Telescope, the future of space exploration and use of social media in generating public interest.

CALL US at 516-387-1639 to join the conversation!

How much for open space & remembering veterans

    in News

The question of how much money to raise through the Open Space tax is a perennial topic in Bergen County. It came up again last week when the Freeholders voted to keep the tax at its current rate of one-quarter cent per $100 of assessed valuation. However, County Administrator Dominic Novelli left the door open to perhaps raising it next year.

In this segment of Record Talk Radio, Novelli talks about the administration's position on the tax. Freeholder David Ganz also weighs in on why he feels that amount is insufficient, given the county's needs.

In the second segment, Retired Marine Captain Ben Cascio talks about what it was like to be asked to give the keynote speech at Friday's Military Appreciation ceremony.

Behind the Headlines - WW2 70th anniversary: Nazis' defeat remembered in Russia

    in News

With end-of-WW2 commemorations taking place across the world this week, the surrender of Nazi Germany on May 8th 1945 is remembered very differently in Russia compared with the West, where relatively muted commemorative events were held. This week on Behind the Headlines, we'll be examining the historical and political reasons for this discrepancy.

In addition to being guest of honor at the Moscow Victory Parade on Red Square, China's President Xi Jinping signed a raft of new deals with the Russian government, while Chinese battleships participated in joint war games with the Black Sea Fleet. Somehow, we don't think the promoters of 'isolating Russia' foresaw trans-Eurasian railways resulting from their sanctions...

While president Obama has been rallying Japan and other Pacific Asian countries behind a 'Trans-Pacific Partnership', the only large crowds in the US this week were angry ones, as protests against police brutality continue. We'll be bringing you the latest on that front, and analyzing the surprising results of the UK's general election.

    Behind the Headlines airs live this Sunday, 10 May 2015, from 2-4pm EST / 11am-1pm PST / 7-9pm UTC / 8-10pm CET.

    The Time Space Continuum

    in Spirituality

Is the Universe expanding?  Is our physical reality that exists within this four dimensional continuum about to change? Hermann Minkowski said that space by itself and time by itself is doomed to fade away but a union of the two will preserve an independant reality.  Join us as we cover more on this subject.

Worldwide Plaza Public Space and Shops - College Info

    in Travel

    Hello,

Welcome to A Theory of Parenting on Blogtalkradio.com

    My name is Tammi Joyner

I am your Host for the Show

Today we are live from 825 8th ave between 49th and  West 50th Street, Two Worldwide Plaza is a post-war skyscraper.  The 39-floor building in Midtown West was completed by William Zeckendorf Jr. in 1989. Today, it is part of a three-building design that stretches an entire block between 8th and 9th Avenue from 49th to 50th Street.

The building's postmodern exterior is perhaps one of the most remarkable building features. The old-fashioned brick is modernized by a copper roof and glass pyramid at the top. At certain times of the day, the sun hits the sleek rows of windows to the point that the facade shines like metal. Terraces abound in the majority of the 455 apartments, each equipped with granite countertops in modern kitchens, marble baths, and 11-foot ceilings.

The interior garden courtyard reserved for residents is matched with the mid-block public plaza housing a diverse array of greenery as well a fountain with elaborate statues, and a nearby cafe.
