The Future of Girl Scout Camps
A property committee with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois has recommended the Board of Directors sell four Girl Scout camp properties. The board is scheduled to vote on the proposals this Thursday, March 28, but a large group of parents, scouts and alumni are fighting the recommendations. The opposition group, called Save our Girl Scout Camps, is challenging the suggestion to sell the properties and asking the board to table its vote. Listen as both sides are represented to discuss this issue. Guests include: Diane T. Nelson , CEO ~Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois . Riding On Insulin founder, Sean Busby, is a professional backcountry snowboarder with type 1 diabetes who explores remote mountain ranges of the world on snowboarding expeditions. In 2004, while training for the 2010 Olympics, Sean endured a complicated diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Considering leaving snowboarding all together, Sean was inspired by reading stories he found through JDRF's Children’s Congress. It was the stories of 5- 7- and 13-year-olds that inspired him to keep living his dreams despite living with diabetes. He founded Riding On Insulin—which is now a nonprofit organization—to honor all the kids who inspired him to keep living. Today, Sean's wife Mollie runs Riding On Insulin and Sean volunteers his time at the organization's global action sports programs (including ski/snowboard camps) for kids, teens and adults living with diabetes. Sean also continues his expeditions through his mountain guiding business, Powder Lines and chronicles his adventures with Mollie on their website, Two Sticks and a Board (http://TwoSticksAndABoard.com). The Music of Dax Lion-the Raptures of Charles Watts
While most upcoming artists tend to lack a strong identity and position on their music and their message Dax Lion, a Roots Reggae artist, is cut from a different cloth. Emerging with the heart of a lion he is unabashedly clear on his mission to convey world-reaching messages while embracing Rastafari in a solid, bass-driven Reggae groove.
Hailing from the city of Kingston with a Bachelor of Arts in Entertainment and Cultural Enterprise Management, Dax Lion was infused with the rich musical roots of Jamaica from a young age. He began to collaborate with artists such as Biggz General and Elise Dash. Currently, Dax is performing in the United States and Jamaica and is working on an upcoming album.
Early in his career, Charles Watts had an underground play “Visigoths” produced in Los Angeles which led to script writing contracts for several TV series, including “Kojack” and “Here Come the Brides.” He fled Hollywood, got an MFA in poetry and went to Iran to teach literature at several Universities. For five years, he edited Seizure, a magazine of poetry and fiction. He has also been a cab driver, social worker on Skid Row in Los Angeles, refugee worker in camps in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Costa Rica, and owner of a tour company. His poems and stories have been anthologized in “Road Poets” and “Karma in the High Peaks,” which won the “People’s Choice Award” for best book of 2010 from the Adirondack Center for Writing. His poems won first place at the North Country Writers Festival in 2009 and 2012.
His most recent publication is a collection of short stories, “Raptures,” published by Ra Press in September, 2012. “Raptures” has been nominated for the fiction award, 2013, by the Adirondack Center for Writing. He currently teaches at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, NY.

1st HOUR: Inside the Quran M.A.L.I. offers online Qur’anic Arabic classes. The classes conducted through Web Conferencing and Conference Phone call. We teach beginners, intermediate and advanced studies. We teach to read the Qur’an in the Arabic text and understand what is being said. Our concentration is in Qur’anic Arabic grammar and the logic taught by Imam W. Deen Mohammed. 2nd HOUR: The Open Forum is hosted by Amadou Shakur who is Director of Development/ Marketing for the International Museum of Muslim Cultures. As Director he lectures to museum and gallery audiences. The museum is currently featuring original African manuscripts covering a period from the ninth to the fifteenth centuries in Timbuktu, Mali. Mr. Shakur was formerly Executive Director for the Shahan Institute, an Islamic research foundation and think tank. Mr. Shakur was former host of a television show entitled “Islam In View” where in-depth interviews on a variety of Islamic and community- oriented topics were discussed. Mr. Shakur lectures on Islamic social and cultural affairs, Islamic Spain, African American and African Islamic history.
3rd HOUR: Clear Concepts hosted by Imam yahya Abdullah who in Imam Abdullah is the author of four books; Elements of Progressive Leadership, Dynamics of African-American Male Development – Manhood Training Curriculum Outline, Religion is the Solution to the Crime Problem in America and Developing the Human Potential.
