VANDAVEER is the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project penned and put forth by folk-pop tunesmith Mark Charles Heidinger. Borned in cloudy Ohio, raised in Kentucky, and currently camped out in the nation's capital, Vandaveer offers up melodic Americana that is both haunting and easy, forlorn and welcoming, with stories as universal as the songs they inhabit. Vandaveer shapeshifts from stage to studio and back with a host of revolving characters, most prominent among them Rose Guerin, offering up the loveliest harmonies heard this side of Eden. The macabre has long held uneasy sway over the human condition. From ghost stories to creation myths, from CSI to Shakespeare, from cable news voyeurism to Edgar Allan Poe, subjects of death, murder and all things ghastly have fascinated and frightened for centuries. Songs are no exception. From Old World roots to more recent incarnations in America, the murder ballad has traversed, shapeshifted and persevered. Despite our collective desire to be good and virtuous, people do very bad things.

The Breton Sound began in earnest with Jonathan Pretus and longtime friend and collaborator, Stephen Turner (lead guitar). This fruitful early period produced an ambitious E.P., Eudaemonia, one that covered a wide range of influences, combining Pretus’s Beatlesesque pop sensibility with Turner’s Rush-infused guitar work. Over the course of the next year, the two would perform and tour in support of Eudaemonia aided by a cast of friends filling in on bass and drums. During that time, the band solidified into it’s current lineup. In addition to Pretus and Turner, The Breton Sound include Brian Pretus (bass/vocals), and Jonathan Alcon (drums/percussion). Turner and Alcon had previously forged a strong musical bond in Epic, their experimental progressive rock group; and Brian, Pretus’s younger brother, brings years of experience in New Orleans tight knit punk rock community.

The Wanton Bishops are "Rock, blues, bourbon and sweat."
The Wanton Bishops are a two-piece blues and garage rock revival band from Beirut, Lebanon. The band is made up of Nader (vocals, harmonica, guitar, keyboards) and Eddy (guitar, backing vocals, banjo), who are joined on stage and in the studio by a hired drummer and a bassist. Nader met Eddy in a blues bar in Beirut a couple of years ago. Well, technically, they met outside the bar on the sidewalk in the middle of a fistfight. Luckily, they weren’t punching each other, and their friendship developed over cheap tequila. They eventually decided to form a band together.

"The Rolling Stones of country music on the verge of taking over the world." - Blackjack Billy
There’s no use in trying to compare or describe what they do. You can’t really accurately and fully recreate the show experience to a friend. There’s a good chance you find yourself bored with whatever follows them on your iPod. The one thing you can do is keep listening. You have to. You can’t stop watching. You can’t stop moving. You can’t stop singing.
BLACKJACK BILLY is Rob Blackledge and Noll Billings.
When they met in January of 2011, they had no idea that less than a year later they would be creating and molding a sound that Nashville had never heard; a sound that Nashville desperately needed."Once upon a time them boys started jammin’ and God looked down and said, 'It is good.' "

Mike Grady and Rick Hollander of South Bay Country
by The South Bay Show in Current Events
Tags: Entertainment Culture Food Business Music
Our guests this morning are Mike Grady and Rick Hollander of South Bay Country.
Mike is the band founder and rhythm guitarist for South Bay Country. He was raised in Cypress, California during the 60's and 70's during what was then a ‘country’ lifestyle.
He grew up around rodeos, worked part-time at the local stables and learned a little riding and roping in addition to playing country music.
In August 2012, he decided to return to his roots and form a country music band right here in the South Bay. He hunted up professional musicians that shared his passion and with a lot of hard work, dedication and numerous hours in the studio, formed South Bay Country.
Mike is all about bringing back live country music to the South Bay!
Rick Hollander was born in Long Beach, California and he’s been performing on the regional and national scene for over 30 thirty years. Rick is a multi-instrumentalist, playing the bass, guitar, mandolin, and tenor banjo and his bands have received air play on local radio stations KROQ, KXLU and KNAC.
Music Connection Magazine described Rick's high energy stage performance "like a super ball on a highway" and "Hollander slaps his bass like a mad man with more fingers than he should possess."
Bam Magazine referred to Rick as a "six-string monster" demonstrating his vast musical vocabulary from a "vicious thumb-slapping style" to "unbelievable two-handed tapping" chord work.
This is going to be a foot-stompin’ show!
