Prophecykeepers - Foxfire Wildcrafter Herbalist Ila Hatter
Ila (pronouced Eye'-lah) Hatter (website) (blog) is a descendant of Pocahontas whose mother was a Cherokee woman named Amopotuskee and whose father was Wahunsunacock a/k/a "King Powhatan."
In this program, a lot about Snowbird (Eastern) Cherokee culture is discussed.
Ila Hatter’s mission is to tune people in to the many ways they can make Mother Nature’s pantry and medicine cabinet their own. Hatter does not forage the woods in the hope of making a profit. “In my case, I’m not gathering things to sell but instead am using them for education – teaching people what these plants are, how to identify them, what the traditional uses are, what the potential market might be for them. I combine my knowledge of the flora with folklore, telling interesting stories that go with the botany of what I do.”
Ila, known as THE LADY OF THE FOREST, is an interpretive naturalist, artist, wildcrafter, and gourmet cook with more than 25 years experience teaching the cultural heritage of native plants. She is a staff instructor for the Univ. of Tenn.’s Smoky Mtn Field School, guest instructor for the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, the John C. Campbell Folk School (Brasstown, NC), The Mountain Retreat Center (Highlands, NC), Snowbird Mtn Lodge (Robbinsville, NC), Charter Board Member of the Yellow Creek Botanical Institute; and Storyteller for Elderhostels in 3 states. She has been featured in major newspapers, magazines, and TV shows. Her distinctive skills were even sought out by CBS for the TV series “Christy”.

Doggn It Andy T & Nick Nixon, Long Tall Deb & 10 Ft Polecats
Doggn It Blues is Graeme Druce and John Cupit and they hail from Sydney Australia and were the 2013 representatives of the Sydney Blues Society for the IBC. Together since 1985 they sing and play their way through a range of original material. I will speak with Graeme and John about their music and lives and the time together as a group while we check out songs from their album, Dog I Am.
Andy Talamantez (Andy T) was born and raised in Southern California and has played with Guitar Shorty and Smokey Wilson. His guitar styling is based upon the legends, but he has infused it with a signature style all his own. He moved to Nashville back in 2008 and has been making music from there since. Nick Nixon is a Nashville native, a member of The Imperials for many years, helped to rejuvenate the Nashville blues scene and was a friend and stage-mate to Jimi Hendrix, whom Nixon befriended when Jimi and Billy Cox came to Nashville in the 60’s. Now they are together and making some incredible music. Andy and Nick join me to talk about their careers and their album, Drink, Drank, Drunk.
Her name is Deb Landolt, but you probably know her as Long Tall Deb, and she commands a stage like few others. She was a Semi-Finalist at the 2010 IBC and has a new album, Raise Your Hands, on the VizzTone Label, which features Deb’s striking vocals and guest appearances by many Blues Stars of today. Deb and I will discuss her growing up in Texas, how she found the blues and where she is heading in 2013.
Finally, “Couch Kids”, the 10 Foot Polecats return to The Couch with new music. The album is called Undertow and it expands off the great stylings of their first two albums. I will chat with Jay Scheffler, Jim Chilson and Chad Rousseau about the album and plans for 2013 and beyond.

Awarded – the official ‘Queen of the Underground’ of London Underground’s licensed buskers, described by The Observer as a ‘prodigy’, Hadar’s self-released debut album ‘Crossing London’ follows her journey busking through Europe from the foot of the Judas mountains all the way to Glastonbury Festival where she was a finalist in the Emerging Talent Contest and went on to play at both the BBC Introducing Stage and Michael Eavis’ press launch to open the festival. Hadar has collaborated with award winning producer Youth, DJ & Mixer Sandy Riviera, and modern Klezmer wizards Oi Va Voi. Worked on soundtrack for Veils, independent short film with Maureen Lipman & awards winning film ‘I’m Not An Accent’. Previous TV performances include ITV’s ‘South Bank Show’. Live radio appearances include: Radio 2, Radio 4, Capital Radio, LBC. Hadar took part in BBC Radio 2 – ‘Great British Songbook’ & covered a Paul McCartney’s ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’. Hadar is now writing & recording new material for a new album These new songs are written, as always, through the eyes of a gypsy travelling through no man’s land…
