Live and Learn in Kenya in Second Life

Since January 2010 Live and Learn in Kenya NGO is also online in the Second Life virtual charity community – Nonprofit Commons. The managers of the Nonprofit Commons go through every detail of an organization’s registration form to assure itself that it really is a charitable non-profit organization and not a computer scam.  LLK operates from a virtual office where people can come in and inform themselves about our work in Kenya, look at photos and, if an LLK member is present, hold a conversation. There are real people behind all of the so-called avatars, so real conversations are held – as well as meetings – either by typing your message or by speaking over a microphone. A child in Kenya – the orphan, Veronica has already been sponsored through a Second Life contact, which makes it all worthwhile.

Musicians Hannah Thomas, Michael Wells, Red Heaven Live, Tukso Okey & Cindy Dees

    in Music

Today's show highlights musicians who perform in Second Life, Concert Window & those on soundcloud. First up, you'll hear Musician Hannah Thomas, On Monday, I caught Red Heaven's concert at Lokki's. I've been anticipating the release of the new CD, Moth. On Tuesday, Seattle-based musician Tukso Okey did his weekly gig at Black Dahlia which was mesmerizing. Tukso is AVI Choice 2015 #1 rock performer in SL.

Finally, on February 27, Mic Wells (aka MrMulti Writer) and Meetu Writer performed at Gallery Rouge. Zap Mama continues its kickstarter campaign and has already exceeded its goal which means the 25th anniversary album will be a reality.

Today, I visited Tableau, a Second Life region after learning about it on The Drax Files. I met the sim creator, Nylon Pinkney, briefly while exploring various spots there. It's a fun, visually stimulating place to visit. The trip reminded me of my first days in SL where everything was new and was so fascinated by everything I discovered. It's been a while since I have that feeling of newness in SL.

Of course, I'll share what's on the bestseller book list and what I'm reading this week. If you enjoy the show, follow me on twitter and BTR. Happy Listening!

    The New Birmingham Ferguson

    in Politics

Birmingham, Ala under Bull Conner that looked very much like it: four officers standing in front of a police car with rifles and helmets, in a city where highly publicized clashes between protesters and the police helped turn the tide of public opinion toward the civil rights movement.
In Ferguson chief, Thomas "Bull" Jackson, said  were meeting “to talk about not only the tactics but the appearance” of the police force, whose resemblance to American soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan has quickly become a social media theme. David J. Garrow, a historian at the University of Pittsburgh’s law school and the author of several books on the civil rights movement, noted that when he searched for images of Ferguson on Google, roughly half showed what appeared to be looting.
The Rev. Osagyefo Sekou, of the First Baptist Church of Boston, stood in the middle of the tightly woven circle.“How do you feel?” he asked, as makeshift batons beat even more urgently. His trainees responded in chorus: “Nervous!” “Anxious!” “Threatened!” “I feel like you’re provoking me!” New York Times SL
