KROB: The Bitching Hour... VIVE LE FRANCE

    in Fun

JOIE DE VIVRE!  Tonight's show is dedicated to Amy, a sweet friend of mine who is learning about The French Revolution in school!  She has made me rediscover my love of French inspired historical shojou anime classics: "The Rose of Versailes" (especially the old live action movie & the new anime movie due soon), "Le Chevalier D'Eon", Les Miserables, & (my fav) "Revolutionary Girl Utena!"  (The last has NOTHING to do w/ 1700s France, but does indeed show the French Rocco style & the romance of the period!)  We will also talk about the Versailles specials on The Biograpghy Channel, as well as the costume drama biopics that were about the life of "Marie Antoinette", like the 1930s classic w/ Norma Shearer to the 2006 remake w/ Kristen Dunst, "Madam Du Barry" & "Madam Du Barry Was A Lady".  "The Affair of The Necklace" w/ Hilary Swank, & even this year's French film, "Farewell My Queen", that depicts Antoinette having a lesbian affair w/ Duchess de Polignac! & Speaking of all things gay, we will briefly revisit yaoi classics "Kaze to Ki no Uta" (The Song of The Wind & The Trees") & " Natsu e no Tabira" (The Door Into Summer), stories that take place nealr 100 years AFTER The Revolution.  Oh, how randy!   & If we have time, Tai-kun & I will talk about how the period inspired "The New Romantic Period" of early 80s post-punk music like Depeche Mode, A Flock of Seaguls, Siouxsie & The Banshees & of course Adam Ant! VIVE LE FRANCE!  Enjoy!!

siouxsie and the banshees- the velvet underground- neil young- rodriguez

siouxsie and the banshees originated in the uk in the late 80s and took the rock world by storm. icon starts up slow but picks up with a 100% humm-able rift. andy warhol had the pleasure of managing one of the best groups in modern music, the velvet underground. what is there to say about oh sweet nuthin. you figure it out. neil young might be one of canadas best exports, aside from polar bear pictures, obviously. after buying some land in california, young wrote old man after the previous rancher who he  uses to compare to himself. after decades of being a humble nobody in the depts of detroit for decades, rodrigues finnaly blew up and recieved his aclaim that had been know greatly, but strictly to south aftrica. completely unknowingly, he was the sound track to revolution and human right in the apartheid stricken. watch the documentary called searching for sugar man if you feel like rooting for an underdog.
