    Oklahoma State Senator Joseph Silk

    in Politics Conservative

Oklahoma State Senator Joseph Silk has introduced a bill that would allow religious entities or businesses “operating consistently with sincerely held religious beliefs” to operate in accordance with those beliefs without facing legal consequences for doing so. In other words, if you are a wedding photographer or a bakery and you do not wish to provide your services for a same-sex wedding, based on religious objections, then there would be no legal consequences for refusing that business. Senator Silk has been facing a firestorm from LGBT activist since he gave an interview to the New York Times about the bill. The harsh push back has come as a result of the Times story taking a partial quote where he said that LGBT people “don’t have a right to be served in every single store,” He has responded to the Times quotes by posting a statement saying “Yes I did say that homosexuals do not have the right to be served in every store, just as I do not believe that I, my family, or anyone else have the right to be served in every private business. The right to provide services should be the decision of the business owners. We need to keep our country free and stop this radical, intolerant, movement.” We'll talk about the bill and the controversy.

Later we'll talk about some of the big stories from the past week. Don't forget about "Outrage of the Week" and "Headlines You May Have Missed".

    SILK - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - THURS, AUG 27, 2015 - 6:00 pm PST

    in Radio

Silk is a highly celebrated, R&B quintet who has sold over 5 million records. The group still comprises the original members who debuted in 1992. These gentlemen are Timzo (Timothy Cameron), Jim (Jimmy Gates, Jr.), Big G (Gary Glenn), Lil G (Gary Jenkins) and John John (Johnathen Rasboro). Popular for baby-making ballads and New Jack Swing favorites, Silk is best known for their 1993 pop hit, “Freak Me.” Other hits include “If You”, “Meeting In My Bedroom”, “Girl U For Me”, “Lose Control”, “Hooked On You” and “Don’t Rush”. The group was discovered by Keith Sweat over 20 years ago yet they continue to enjoy longevity in the industry with six studio albums. Currently, Silk is delicately placing the finishing touches on their seventh studio LP while touring the world.
The group began its embryonic stage in the mid 80’s. Timzo, Jim and John John formed the singing group as the teenagers harmonized while working at McDonald’s. Shortly thereafter, Big G was joined. A then-gospel group, the four would get their big break singing church songs in their manager’s basement during a cookout. Already empowered with unique diamond-smooth harmonies, Silk went in search of a fifth voice and Gary “Lil G” Jenkins was joined to the group. Keith Sweat signed the group to his Keia label and helped to create Silk’s unmistakable sound.
Sweat co-wrote and produced most of the steamy, sexually suggestive songs for their debut album, Lose Control. Selling two million copies, the album spun three US R&B Top 10 hits, including ‘Freak Me’, which stayed at #1 on the chart for eight weeks and the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. Silk would go on to release their second album with an eponymous title giving us “I Can Go Deep”, “Hooked On You” and “Don’t Rush”.

    in Entertainment

Gayle Howell, known in the poetry world as the “Lady Silk” is an award winning poet, writer and spoken word artist. Silk Elements "A Poets Origin," is a must read for anyone that loves pure poetry.

E Turner on January 12, 2014 at 7:41 pm said: Silk Elements is a look into the life of one’s soul told by very in-depth person (Lady Silk). This book gives you some insite on sex, lies, deception and truth. “Real Love” was defined in a sort of “sadistic” way In a variety of Sonnets read. I was captivated by so many of her pieces…they were all favorites of mine. Reminds me of personal endeavors in my own life. Would love to see this evolve into a short story as told by Silk or a movie. If you haven’t read “SILK ELEMENTS” you are really missing out.

Star Nelson Irizarry and Director Silk White of "The Hand I Was Dealt"

    in Entertainment

The King of DC Media, William Powell, welcomes actor Nelson Irizarry and director Silk White of the dynamite-hot Webseries "The Hand I Was Dealt". Nelson will share how his infamous, bad boy character Macho is getting attention World-Wide.

"The Hand I Was Dealt" airs every Tuesday at 8pm. Watch the latest episode, #6 here.

Read my January 2014 interview with Nelson here.

His performances are brash, bold and something to behold. He's plays characters more hardcore than a two-edged-sword. I'm talking about Baltimore-based actor Nelson Irizarry, who shared highlights of his career and what he's doing now, with DC Actors Examiner.

Who do you play in Black Water Creek: Legend of Sasquatch?

I play detective Neilson. He is a burnt out detective who is brought back on the force to solve a series of serial murders.

How about some background: What should film fans know about Nelson Irizarry?

I was born in New York. I am of Hispanic descent. I first started in the industry producing music. My first movie was called Charm City, directed by Derick Thomas. He gave me my start in films.

I loved your performance in All in the Game. How's the film doing?

Thank you very much. The film is actually doing well. It is in a number of stores. Gary Ugarek, the director, is in talks to do a sequel.
